I dont really get the criticism he’s getting, yes he needs to score more goals in the PL, but he will, he gets the chances but he’s been a bit unlucky more than anything.

He’s only got 3 goals in 40 PL matches so far.

But overall for us his record is not bad for a central midfielder as he’s got 8 goals in 54 matches so far.

His record for Hungary is excellent for a midfielder though as he’s got 14 goals in 49 games, thats a goal every 3,5 game.

If we compare it with Steven Gerrard as an example from his Liverpool career, he scored a goal every 3,82 match.

Szoboszlai has made a good start to his career so far, but we are allowed to want and to expect more.

Personally I think he will score around 7-9 goals in all competitions for is this season.

We are easily a better team with him in the team,  than we are without him.

It's not always about goals and before we can even talk about him getting more goals, he needs to be better at the simple basics.....such as not fucking up a 5 yard pass. How many of his goals haven't been from penalties or free kicks which he doesn't get to take for club?

The criticism is merited - he came in for big money and a lot of our attacks break down at his feet because time and time again he fails to see the bigger picture which is one of the essentials to being able to play in the 10, he passes (or takes an extra 3402 touches) when the shot is on and he shoots when the pass is on.

He's not some 20 year old in his first season, been here long enough now to get to grips to how we want to play and if he still can't fit in then he'll either have to see more bench time or moved on because we sure as hell can't be sitting around this time next season talking about how his biggest contribution is still the distance he covers.

No he's a 23yr old, 10 games into a new managers reign who is probably carrying out the off the ball instructions better than anyone, so yeah it's not just about the goals. Of course that area needs to be improved but he's done that at Red Bull and for Hungary quite well so I'd be hopeful.

He was absolutely tremendous in his running. Stopped almost all their counter chances and put us on the forefoot. Could he be better in his decision making? Of course, but I’ll easily forgive that seeing as he must have been bursting bost his lungs most of the match. So many times we were strolling around with no upfield choices, then Szobo made a run and we sudddenly were dangerous. Him or Van Dijk MotM.

Agree with the above, I just wish he'd shoot more, not all the time but he's got a foot like a 'traction engine' and needs to own it.

They’re clearly not allowed to shoot from any distance because it’s too ‘low percentage’. It’s the only explanation.

Himself, Mac and Trent just don’t take it on 19 out of 20 times. Has to be tactical.

Some variety would be welcome.

Worth noting we tried two or three shots from distance early on and they had to fish the ball out the fucking Trent on each occasion.

Yeah, you're right, there was an example tonight when I thought he had a good chance to pull the trigger but slid it wide for Mo to blaze into row z. He surely had the better angle, just didn't seem to even think about it. Whereas Mo didn't give it a second thought, fuck this I'm having a go. Just wish he'd be a little bit more confident.

Mo doesn’t have their power either. Would have made more sense in thst second half to try with a couple of efforts themselves.

Would Gerrard even be allowed to shoot these days?

Also, Szloboszlai has hit some unbelievable free kicks from considerable distance for Hungary and back with Leipzig.

Terrible final ball and I wasn’t impressed with the amount of crying he did in that first half.

He's energy is brilliant. And he picks his moments really well. But there's no finesse to anything he does on the ball. I think we need someone who can shoot and pass better in that role. I'd just move him back. No issues with either of the two behind him stepping back. Most games I'd have Jota in that role.

Definitely not the right game to bump this thread and criticise his performance. He showed the fight, balls and work rate in a tough away fixture.

His mindset today was fantastic, lesser players would have wilted at 1-0 down in a crunch title fixture. Especially with their shit house grock fouling and ankle nibbling tackle's. He stood up to be counted in a very physical match.

He also would have scored had Niko Williams got extremely lucky with that header, it was a certain goal.

There was one where he was on the corner of the six yard box and tried to cross it. Should have just put his foot through it

Agreed. His penchant for passing when he should shoot and just booting the ball across the face of the goal was apparent last night. He has a lot of physical capabilities, but his composure and final ball are not what they should be for an attacking midfielder.
