Thought he was a year younger, never mind then.

I guess that will form part of the assessment process now, are we better served with a younger defender and older midfielder or vice versa and whatever fits best (both in age and price) is what we'll go for.

Seems like Thuram and Lavia are those options in midfield, we don't really know what the defensive options look like beyond Colwill (which looks very unlikely).

Unless one position is so stand out that they feel they have to do it even if it means forgoing the other for this summer.

I don’t know the specific rule, you might well be right.

A quick Google tells me he was born 25th August. Isn’t the rule something about your age at the start of the season? If that’s the case, he likely would be an u21. I don’t know.

We’ve not really linked with English or HG players at all. I know release clauses might come off as being cheap, given how wildly inflated the market is currently.

I don't believe Lavia has ever played in a midfield three. The Fabinho role is much different than sitting deep next to Ward Prowse.

That’s the role Fabinho did at Monaco and he adapted.

Don't see anything wrong at all with the point of view that we look like we have added well to midfield if this lad joins the other lad we have signed as our 2nd addition to the black hole, but still wanting to see us add a more defensive minded player to top the rebuild off.

It was sickening to watch our midfield played through and run through with ease last season, to see it hardly ever come out on top in challenges, to see it failing to win 2nd balls regularly and to see teams simply outmuscle it, outfight it and be much, much more mobile than it.

Bringing in a really good strong, athletic and mobile No.6 type to help us with those problems, offer some protection in front of the back line, sense and snuff out danger and be a base for others to play from would IMHO be a big, big step towards fixing us and perfectly compliment our new addition/hopeful addition.

Isn’t that about the press from the front three, why Darwin wasn’t played as much in the 2nd half of the season and in the why Fab looked a bit more like his old self in that last run of games ?

Not saying we shouldn’t sing Lavia just that we solved some of those ‘galloping through our midfield’ issues with better pressing up front, which is one of the key things the old front 3 did so well; which was perhaps under appreciated?

We'll have to disgaree on Fabinho.

I agree he was isolated and exposed....big problems, but for me his tackling is atrocious now, he is either too late too often (again i'll say being isolated, exposed and outnumbered does not help) or he is outmuscled and whilst he has never been quick he used to read things better - now he seems switched off too often and worse still looks a lot less mobile than he was.

My other issue with him is his passing.

In my view he his in sharp decline.

I'd love to be wrong and see him look like he did mind.

I agree about Fabinho always looking a yard short or a moment late now. I'm hoping it's a timing issue though that can be rectified with a better pressing unit around him. He's never been rapid, but he could read where the ball would break to. Some players need that rhythm of a functioning midfield to sync with.

Without players disrupting things and pressing in front of him effectively, he seems caught in indecision, knowing he isn't going to cover the ground, but having to go for tackles anyway.

He's got the air of a player low on confidence and alternating between passivity and trying too hard, hence the number of inexplicably misplaced passes. Hopefully we'll see an upturn in form with some legs around him.

Szoboszlai is also shit hot at set pieces which are another great way of scoring against low block sides. His direct free kicks might actually be better than Trent’s according to some reports.

Just have to convince the refs to actually give us some.

Jurgen needs to list off a number of facts while reading from a sheet at a press conference.

We definitely need a new midfielder IMO, as all the ones we have left over from last season are either on the decline, permanently injured or still raw as fuck.

If we do sign another midfielder then we need to make some grown up decisions around Curtis, Harvey and Bacjetic. Particularly the first 2, they have enough minutes in them to be confident making an educated decision on their futures. If they won't be better than we think Kone or Thurman will be then we need to sell at least one of them.

Jurgen seems to see Elliott as a replacement for Salah in some games.

I think that’s a problem for the kid: he’s neither an outright midfielder nor an outright attacker.

You keep all three.

Ideally, yes. We’d keep all three and move Henderson on. And Fabinho too if we get a replacement 6.

But the whole time Klopp has been here, he’s never sold a player who doesn’t want to leave, has he? The enormous wages would be another stumbling block as well.

And Thiago leaves next year as well anyway and we will be lucky if he is available for 20 league games this coming season. Add in uefa cup/domestic cups....plenty of mins for Jones, Elliott and Bajcetic going forward. Depth is what we have lacked in midfield - time to build it and they add it.

I'd be surprised if any midfielder left even if we added another.

A third new signing would give us 9 midfielders plus Trent for 4 positions, we carried 9 midfielders last season when we played with 3 players for most of it.

Thiago is effectively part time but is the most Trent-like actual midfielder at the club, Henderson's role will be reduced, Bajcetic can be protected a little more than last season.

Hes a versatile attacking midfielder / forward.

Not going to help us if the formation turns out shit and we need to go back to three ball winning/retention machines.

Is almost certain we won't sign a 6 in this window so better hope we get a decent centre back

Are you ever happy?

We're not signing anyone....well maybe one but we're not signing anyone else after that, it'll be one signing and that's it...ok two but that'll definitely be it....

I’d be amazed if see a 3th signing but a 4rd? Well that’s more likely.

Yes, but and this cannot be repeated enough, you very clearly thought that Luis Suarez was a problem at one point - and a problem that could be solved by replacing him with Adam Morgan

Who would have replaced him with then, smart arse?
