Do people watch him play football? He's a world class passer. Everything else has become substandard.

He's the best right back in the world by a country mile.  You can mitigate every 'failing' with the people around him not helping as much as they should, and extremely risky tactics by Klopp in exposing a single player that much, for so long, especially when he seldom gets a break.

Carvajal is a great right back but he's got Valverde busting a gut to help him, and Rodrygo is a willing helper.

Likewise Walker, with Rodri.

Trent has Endo, sometimes.

I think he's a great talent but if he wants to leave and work on choreographed goal celebrations and Boyz in da hood fistbumps with Bellingham I don't think I much care. Just get as much money as possible in and move on

i hope he stays and playes to his very best as a right back, becauset that is where he is a world class footballer. In the middle ? sell at first chance.

He's not a midfielder. If he doesn't want to play right back anymore then move him on.

This is the top and bottom of it.

I just watched a YT video of Trent's first 100 assists and goals.

I'm struggling to find a similar video for a 25 year old fullback.  I'm fact I'm struggling to find one for a 25 year old PL midfielder or winger.

I didn’t think he had got 100 combined goals and assists. Just found the video myself and checked his stats - 19 goals and 58 assists. Or is there international stuff to be added to that? Not watched the video, which would have probably helped!

People are mad if they think we should get rid. Only a world class passer?

Great at free kicks, corners, and creates chances from any position on the pitch. He is a top player. But he can't do this but he can't do that. Oh shut the fuck up.

Klopp played a hugely risky style of football, it made lots of players struggle sometimes. But the benefits outweighed the negatives. And that sums up Trent as a player perfectly.

Who the fuck is going to create chances and see passes if he goes?

Dom? No, he's looked very average

Endo? Errrr

Jones? Klopps grandkids will see a pass before he does

Robertson? He's been average for a while

Diaz? He'll have to find a bush in the cul de sac he runs down every 5 minutes first

Nunez? Yeah okkkkk

Salah? Depends on his mood

Gakpo? Sometimes but mostly not

Mac Allister? Yeah probably

Fuck me we are short of top class players, and we aren't buying any this summer either.

Trent has won every major trophy, played in the biggest games under the biggest pressure and delivered. Losing him, Klopp, VVD, Salah and possibly Alisson would be a fucking monumental fuck up and we probably wouldn't recover from it for years.

We have a manager who's never worked in this league, never won a major trophy and never managed high profile players. You want him to totally rebuild the side and put all our faith In him without any help from our experienced players? Suicide

This sums it up for me:

I imagine that he will sign a contract extension but there will be a gentlemans agreement in place whereby if Real Madrid come knocking a year or two down the line with an acceptable transfer fee, and he decides he wants to go, then we wouldn't stand in his way.

I fully expect a video to come out in the next couple of weeks like when we were all panicking over Salah signing a new contract.

Why would we agree to that?

That is bloody nonsense

Nearly every game Konate has played the last couple of years he's had to try and hold down tbe right hand side on his own because Trent has offered little defensively.

He's asleep far to often at the back post.

Can we side a solution to that? Possibly, but to blame others for his defensive lapses to ridiculous. It's laziness and his wanting to play in midfield. He's shown he can defend well enough but since Southgate dropped him a couple of years back and the talk of him being a midfielder started he's done less and less defensively.

If he thinks he's going to Madrid and beating out Valverde,Tchouaméni or Camavinga he will be in for a shock.

Why wouldn't we. Might just suit us and him by that time and if he wants to go then he should go - better that than him going next season for fuck all.

He signs an extension we get a big fee in 2 or 3 years if he wants out.

Who's been better than him over 2 seasons?

Trent at his best is the best. He's hugely talented but his performances over the last 2 years have been hugely inconsistent. There doesn't need to be someone better than him, someone like Carvahal that does their job is a perfectly fine way to approach it. Chances, assists, goals can come from other parts of the pitch.

We seemingly have a situation where the manager needs to convince an under performing player where he should play. Players looking for new contracts usually up their game for 6 months, he didn't or couldn't. As I said meh, stay or go, I don't really care.

Agreed that if he wants to leave he should be allowed to go, hoping that's not the case though. I still think he should try midfield, give him 100 hours of Xabi videos and ask him to watch them then see how much he can replicate it if we try him in that position for a while.

Then if it work just hope he doesn't think about where Xabi went when he left us. Actually maybe this is a bad idea.

Alexander-Arnold’s comments on playing in midfield during a pre-England vs. Malta press conference on Thursday were particularly interesting.

“My specific skill set and what I’m best at is someone who plays in the middle,” he is quoted by the Times.

“Someone who controls the game, controls the tempo, creates, breaks line, progresses the ball up the pitch.

“You probably get more out of me from being in the middle and I’m able to show off that skill set as much as possible.

“My role is to go and create and make things happen, control the game in the middle of the pitch, get the ball on to the attackers, play forward, run forward, goals, assists, create chances, get people off their seats.”

Hasn’t he said so himself in an interview at the season before last/beginning of last season?

He said he enjoyed playing both I thought.

I've always thought this midfield thing was a Southgate problem. All players want to play for their country, regardless of if we like it or not. Watching Trent celebrate during the euros should leave that in no doubt. So as he wasn't going to get international recognition at right back, Southgate was the one who first proposed putting him in midfield. This was something Klopp actively mocked originally. Then as the euros approached, we end up with this hybrid thing, which in turn gives Trent the opportunity to put a claim on an England role, especially due to their shortage of quality players in that area - the have rice, Bellingham and nobody. Now Southgate has gone, a different manager might not be as risk averse and see playing the world's best right back at right back as a positive.

Everyone seems to think it's a nap he's off to Madrid. Well he's not going there to play midfield. So I don't really see why he can't or won't be right back here. I don't think it's clear cut at all Trent sees midfield as the only option. Midfield was a means to an end to play international football.

He used to do that from right back. I don't think I've ever seen him control a game from the middle, although he often played some tremendous passes. But I'd never read those words before. If that's the case, he's fucked going to Madrid then, because that's not the job they'll have in mind for him.

What Trent has described there is the exact type of midfielder Madrid require now Kroos has gone, whether Trent can do that, time will tell.

I've not seen those quotes before but it's obvious now that he wants to play midfield and if we don't provide the opportunity, he will move somewhere that does. I actually think he's more determined than ever after the Southgate fiasco to prove people wrong as well.
