Poor effort. Must try harder

What? I could see him at Madrid, and if he does die on his arse over there, I could see him at PSG.

He's won everything at a club where you have to scrap to the ends of the earth to win anything because of a financially doped opponent. Maybe he'll fancy a slice of the easy life.

You don't need me to tell you how you framed it with the Arsenal dig which you know is nonsense. Even this one is dripping with antagonism.

Was he not an Arsenal fan as a kid? I'm sure I read that he was an Arsenal fan as a kid.

Edit: Apologies, just looked it up, he was a Liverpool fan, but Henry was his favourite player. I stand corrected.

I don't think it's laziness with Trent but something has been off for a while, possibly he just doesn't want to play right back.

I'm always amazed what an easy ride he gets from pundits though. They talk about him in midfield like he's Iniesta. He plays some decent balls but he's not especially mobile or incisive. His set pieces are terrible. I can't remember the last time he was anyone's man of the match.

Our most creative player, put him in the best position to flourish, and that's as an 8.

As a right back, tasked with defending, he's just not good enough.

When we play Spurs, Son always seems to score from that inside left position, we lost the European Cup Final against Madrid when Vinicius scored from the same position, Rashford and Martinelli always turn him inside out and catch him napping or out of position, the Japanese lad at Brighton and the gadgey at Wolves too.

No shame there, because they're all top opponents but Trent is the definite weak link in our back 4 and opposing teams do target him.

In limited game time, Conor Bradley has given us far greater grit and steel in that right back position and he deserves to continue there imo.

Play Trent as an 8.

Can you see Trent putting in the yards that the likes of Szobo, Jones and Mac Allister do?

Never gonna happen.

You do not give up on or throw away passing ability like Trent has. It's a gift that you harness. You find a place anywhere in the side to maximise it. Klopp found it at full back but that's now finished. So where? I think Alonso would have the answer and the cheats are doing something similar.

Having Trent move into midfield from a back 3 would work like a dream in my opinion. I've seen the cheats doing this now with Stones and Akanji. They have Walker and Gvaridol playing full backish with Stones or Akanji moving into midfield from centre back.

Alonso's set up would be perfect for Trent I think.

In what way?

Klopp's football is more suited to him than Alonso's due to its more direct nature. I don't think Alonso really needs someone hitting loads of diagonals and such.

And then for all we know, Alonso might be down for inverting fullbacks or playing him in midfield, but right now he's playing with very advanced wing backs and two holding midfielders.

Ah, yea...

Let's make this easy - how about you pick a few games where you think he has been a top player in midfield and we can discuss just those to start.

After that we can get to how it's not working with him at RB

Klopp found it at full back but that's now finished.

But will if he is stepping out of a "back 3" as the (checks notes) Centre Back.

He had a few games at the back end of last season where he looked pretty comfortable in the middle and grabbed a couple of assists. I don't think he'd be better than our current regulars in there now though.

Trent has more to his locker than hitting diagonals. His passing range is sublime, long or short.

I have no idea if, and it's a big if, Alonso came here and played the same style. If he did then I think Trent coming out of a back 3 into midfield would suit him. He does it with Hincapie a little but that's more overlapping. Guardiola has changed from inverted full backs to having Walker Dias and Gvardiol making up a back 3 with Stones or Akanji moving into midfield.

All I know is there are not many footballers who make me go fucking wow but Trent is one of them. His passing is too good.

He's never started in midfield to my knowledge. He's moved there at half time for Endo when he was struggling and we tended to go on and win when he did.

He's never played in midfield bar the half time substitutions of Endo for Gomez that we've gone on to win

OK - so we have got that out of the way - he's not a midfielder.

We can either discuss a couple of games where it has worked and why or we move on to the part about it not working from RB now if you want.

We can do whatever you like. You have no idea if he's a good midfielder or not.

We both know -to use Klopp's phraes - in this moment - he is not a midfielder at all.

I'm all ears - especially the part about swapping him from RB to CB making it work.

If he's not a midfielder at all then why has Klopp moved him there at times this season?
