This summer has been even more haphazard than usual.

Maybe. But they've had to deal with all sorts of shit with contracts, Barcelona fucking them, and a new ownership who've decided to get rid of the previous structure.

That side today includes their best players from last season, save for Koulibaly, who's as good as anything you have outside this league, plus Sterling and Cucurella with proper Premier league pedigree.

They are about to add Abamayeng to replace Werner, which is a mssive upgrade, and De Jong too.

It's hardly chaotic.

Boehly's been given a £200m+ exemption from FFP this summer.

Astonishing, why? Have all the premier league clubs had a vote on this? Just because their former owner who spent 15 years financially doping and then got into difficulty we all owe Chelsea a favour? Shouldn't it be a case that all the premier league clubs are given a one off exemption this summer?

Not that it would make any difference to our spending.

Yeah they defy all established logic...

Managerial/coaching stability/give time to build.....fuck that.

A careful transfer policy....fuck that.

Yet the sheer weight of the money they have thrown at it all makes it work.

On one hand, I agree.

On the other, their stability has come from everything above the manager, or head coach, as they call it.

Similar to Bayern, Real, and most Italian clubs.

It was part of the deal to sell the club under Abramovich, wipe out the huge operating debt that was in plain sight but ignored and leave the club with enough money to 'rebuild' the team and commit to stadium improvements!

Yeah but they get plenty wrong - and the money just means they can ride it.

How much did they spend on Lukaku and Werner - both total flops.

The stable thing IMO at their football club has been the luxury of being able to throw massive sums of money around without too much fear of 'what if it does not work out'

It's definitely chaotic. They've been reliably linked with about a million different players.

Just handicaps those clubs who dont have a mega rich benefactor, believe in sporting integrity, dont believe massive debt is the way to run a club and wanting to play within the laws of the game.

I mean the clubs are just laughing at it aren’t they? The league are embarrassing themselves with it.

Yeah, chelsea, city, the shite, possibly villa as well.

chelsea, city and no doubt soon, newcastle fans say oh the moores family bankrolled Liverpool during their hey day, we're just doing the same, but that's bollocks.

The Moores family had a controlling stake in the shite. They were only allowed a 5% shareholding under league rules in another club, us. Through the 60s to 1990, our transfer spend was relatively low. Even up to the mid 70s our record transfer fee was sub £200,000. The core of the 70's team was picked up from the lower leagues for pittance, Clem, Hughes, Lindsay, Lloyd. Toshack and Cormack cost £112,000 and £120,000 each with others already at the club and developed like Smith, Callaghan, Hall, Heighway.

Other than that, the 'extra' money we got came from average league attendances of 40,000+ every game and a 25 year run of qualifying for European football, mainly the Fairs and Uefa Cups. Only on a couple of occasions did we get knocked out in the first or second rounds.
