  1. 1. If we were to make one more signing this summer, would you go for a midfielder or a forward

€120m was quoted in the papers today for Bellingham. We won't pay half that, this or next summer.

Bellingham is just a distraction unless he has a get out clause nobody knows about and is happy to earn less with us than others would be prepared to pay him. He just feels the latest in a line of "we're waiting for the right one just like with vvd" nonsense.

The Bellingham next summer stuff doesn't really add up to me. One week we are supposedly prepared to wait to get him next summer and the following week journos are reporting our concerns we won't be able to afford his fee or wages then. So we are supposedly waiting for a player that we don't think we will be able to afford? Doesn't sound too plausible.

Same with all of the Klopp telling Ward to identify him an athletic midfielder for next summer. Supposedly when they identified Tchou he would have come from a list of players, especially considering they briefed they always expected Tchou to end up at Madrid.

Is anyone paying €100 million for Bellingham?

Not sure why they would really. He’d be the most expensive midfielder of all time.

Dortmund have to price him high though don't they? Not sure why they are saying how much he will be available for next summer now though.

They made similar claims on Sancho as well and got significantly less.

But we bid for the Monaco guy, and we waited for Konate too last Janaury, so it's not all nonsense, is it?

I'm not even that fussed on Bellingham. If you're bringing in a midfielder for £80m on £200k a week I think there would be better options than him.

Let's wait and see how Elliott and to a lesser extent Jones get on this year. Elliott started last season in the first 11 on merit, if he has a good pre season maybe he gets back in.

The problem with Bellingham is he's about 4 years away from being what we need.

We need a rangy athletic space eating midfielder who can play at both ends of the pitch, at Bellingham's age most of his development has been going forward and it'll be a few years before his all round game develops and he becomes the two way midfielder we need.

Tchouameni was the opposite, his defensive game was more developed than his attacking but that would have been a more useful skill set for us in the short term.

The ideal would have been both sitting either side of a DM and in a few years we would have had a formidable double 8 pairing of all action, box to box, midfielders one with a proclivity towards defending and one towards attacking but either able to do both.

We didn't bid for the Monaco guy. We talked to him, the numbers were too big and it didn't go far as we no longer thought he was value. The Liverpool reporters were all saying that well before he moved.

It wouldn't have mattered anyway as he clearly made his mind up to join Madrid and Madrid were not going to lose out on him after Mbappe screwed them. It was a losing battle for us and the lad just did some lip service saying he doesn't mind joining Liverpool etc.

Hopefully he is a real target this summer.

Aside from that, am looking forward to see how Bajcetic fares in pre-season. Feel maybe we will see a lot more of him if we have another good cup run.

Yeah, I don't dispute he was never coming here and he had his heart set on Madrid.

The wages will be an issue too, as we've recently said that we don't pay young players huge wages. It was one of the reasons we didn't go for Sancho.

Dortmunds top young players are always likely to be out of our reach.

The only way it could happen is if Bellingham only wants to play for us and is prepared to buy in to our structure and take a much lower contract offer than he could get else where.

And this validates your point how exactly?
