Someone’s Having a Real Laugh - How Long Until They ‘Bin Bag’ Ten Hag?

I've mentioned before that an ex-Premier League ref is a mate of mine.

When people talk about corruption, they are implying financial gain etc.  I don't think this is true.

But football as an institution was certainly corrupted by Ferguson.  My mate talks about it - how intimidating he was and how the refs saw appeasement as the best way of dealing with him.

It's rubbish when a bully can act with impunity and nobody can speak out for fear of being isolated and not being supported by others or your employers.  It's a nightmare scenario that is actually now recognised and supported by law in the "whistleblowers act" (and yes, I did see what I just did there....).

One thing my mate speaks about is something I hadn't really thought of before.  He said that aside from the Cup Final, reffing at Old Trafford was seen as the pinnacle of achievement for refs.  It's what they aspired to.  So fear of jeopardising the next step of your career path was something he and others wouldn't risk.

And when they did risk it (look up the examples), their careers were diminished.

That massive arl lush was a pox on the game.  Great manager, no doubt about that, but his greatness was sustained through the worst possible circumstances.

Similar story with journalists. If anyone questioned any of his bullshit, (for example, when he was slagging referees for giving perfectly correct decisions against them) they'd be banned from OT and that could be a big hit for their career.  So the media would dutifully amplify whatever pressure he chose to put on the referees.

After a while, it must just be easier to give all the decisions United's way.

Riley's deliberately not giving us a penalty for handball against Chelsea

( one of the Tiago's ?) at the Kop end in the Noughties was the worst decision I have ever seen. He actually put the whistle to his lips, the cheating fuck, and had the cheek to book Carra for complaining.

Yes.  We were on the ale once and my mate unexpectedly got a call from Riley (a mate calling a mate).

I took the opportunity to lay into him, relayed through my mate, about that specific decision.  I was on the Kop that day and I knew what had happened.  If Mourinho wasn't the Chelsea manager, I know he'd have given it.  The massive coward.  You could see his brain working to catch up with the mechanics of making a reflex decision.

My mate who is a very serious fella (as you'd expect) went along with it, saying, "I'm with my Liverpool mate and he says..."

I think the conclusion was "Typical scouser" or something similar.  Fair enough.  It's the last thing you expect, calling up a friend and he's drunk and his mate you've never met is giving you stick.

It was all light-hearted, but I did let him know.

If you are a blind FIFA virgin, possibly….

You’d be about the only one in the thousands of betting markets that’s not convinced.

This is probably a bit closer to the truth, hopefully one of our forwards will take one of their guaranteed numerous chances this year.

Aaaaand, some sense at last. He’s the least suited player to the PL I’ve seen since Morientes. His only respite might be that he gets away with an awful lot of questionable challenges as he’s playing for them.

We’ll beat them by 15 to 20 pts in the league. They are a bit better equipped in the cups, as that suits their playing style better. I think they will end up 6th or 7th, comfortably behind Spurs and Newcastle, and possibly Chelsea or Villa.

Probably a bit harsh to neg you there, sorry about that. I’m just so incredibly annoyed at the constant negativity towards our team from our supporters seeping into every thread on here. The Mancs transformation to AFC Ajax is near complete, can’t we use this thread to mock them and gloat over their continued misery?

To your post: We are clearly 3rd favourites for the league (again) at ca 8/1, while Utd are 25/1. I actually think 8/1 on us is generous given that we didn’t do too badly last time we didn’t uproot our squad. Even Chelsea are given a better chance of winning the league than Utd!

I’ll be pleasantly surprised if ETH lasts till Christmas. They are going nowhere fast.

Skewered by a journo.

He's even shitter than ole.... And he was something else.

I hope they don't sack him. Him replying to that question was like Mike Bassett asking the journalist to explain how he'd set the team up, only for the journo to speak a head of sense and Bassett replies with "fuck off"

I think people underestimate how big a factor being a decent communicator is in sports.

Imagine playing for this guy. Don’t think I’ve ever come across a Dutch guy speaking English this badly, having zero charisma and being all about rules and plans doesn’t seem to help him much either.

I know Rafa had his struggles with English, and struggled a bit to get his message across at times, and Emery at Arsenal/Villa surely must have someone interpreting/relaying his messages. Ten Hag’s robotic nature just oozes failure and insecurity.

I know a few of the Utd supporters were a bit vary of the lack of charisma thing when they were first linked with him, but it’s gotta be pretty uncomfortable sitting up there having to defend yourself in your second language while seemingly being completely unable to understand what’s happening on the pitch.

I think he’ll be gone before the January window opens, and the new manager will be given some money to try and rectify that horribly unbalanced squad.

ETH in the presser after the game today: "I'm not Harry Potter"

He got that right.

Yeah, Harry Potter never spent £619m trying to put Dumbledore’s Army together.

He’s a horrible bastard, nothing is his fault. He wouldn’t have it that the tactics were wrong, or the set up was wrong, or the formation was wrong, the chances they conceded were simply due to individual player mistakes. If he was our manager I would hate him for that, I can’t stand people who won’t accept their own errors and mistakes.

A few Mancs I know are fuming that he's been there 3 years and spent about £600m and the team still doesn't seem to have a clue how to play or understand any of his tactics even with about 7 former Ajax players. Yet Slot needs 3 games and £11m.

Didn't the little gremlin spend nearly a billion or something?

He's so shit, but is also very, very unlikeable. Thus, it is fun to watch him squirm under scrutiny.

It's the most obvious thing in the world that Van Nistelrooy will be manager by Christmas.

They're absolutely shite. And he's a cunt of a manager.

From our side, we've a team that's been taking them apart for ages. Neville mentioned in commentary I think in 13 we've won 7 and drawn 5 (I'm assuming he's counting league only). Last season those 2 draws and the cup defeat must be some of the most ones sided games ever to happen and not result in wins. We had about a million shots in the 3 games. The season before we put 7 past them. Think about it, their heaviest defeat ever. They're an abomination of a football team, that seems to just have these freak days. They did it 3 times against us last season. They even got fucked in the cup with Coventry and was it Newport and squeezed though. And I'll never understand them winning a cup final against city.
