I saw an interview with Daniel Radcliffe and he said that, when they were doing the Potter films, they used to joke about "No Acting days" - for example, when he'd be doing a scene with Ralph Fiennes in his full Voldemort gear roaring bloodcurdling threats in his face and the director would say "I want you to look scared."

Daniel Radcliffe would say "Yes. Yes, I think I can do that."

 

I imagine the same happened with Sally Phillips getting the direction "look like you're trying not to laugh".

I reckon Coogan said just do yourself.
