I still think Nunez will command a decent transfer fee that will help us being in a much better 9.

Needs to go, but it’s nowhere near Keita waste of space territory.

What level of fee do people reckon we’ll get if it’s not Saudi?

If I was looking to buy him I'd pay 12 million tops with a sell back clause.

Atleti under Simeone would fit him like a glove...and the red cards would be entertaining!

I’ve always thought he’d be a great fit there. They seem well suited to his strengths.

  • 2 weeks later...

Don't know how true these things ever are, but I do recall last April reading that one of the things that made Slot attractive to management was his proposals for getting the best out of some players, Nunez in particular.

Always struck me as strange that at no point has he ever trusted him, or showed faith in him.

Also recall reading that apparently Feyenoord played exactly like Klopp's Liverpool and we were going to get a seamless transition.

Did wonder if Slot smiled, nodded and told them what they wanted to hear - as I've been known to do at job interviews.

"Oh yes, I am always on time for work. The very idea of taking eight months off on the sick, once I pass probation, is totally antithetical to my views."

I think you can have faith in your ability to coach a player but when you get on the training pitch and realise you're working with a useless fucking moron with no aptitude for developing there's not a lot you can do.

Klopp encountered the same issue, he's a handsome boy when he's somebody else's problem but once he became Klopps problem he soon got sick of his shit.

I would agree that Klopp decided actually he was wrong. But it did take him two full seasons and I think that March/April stretch when Nunez missed an obscene amount of sitters at Utd, Everton and at home to Palace.

From what I can tell Slot decided the game was up after a few training sessions, possibly even after that incident when he was fighting with fans at the Copa?

Like I said, though, you never know what was leaked by whom to smooth what over, so it is possible that Slot has never rated him. It’s also possible he watched him in person and decided not to stake his career on an erratic madman.

Not sure it did take two years, it was more a case of having to keep playing him despite knowing it wasn't going to work.

But even then we effectively mothballed him at the same point at the tail end of both of those seasons because he ran out of patience, and both seasons (I think?) he had a little strop about it.

My memory isn’t what it used to be, but I don’t remember him getting sidelined at the end of the first season?

From April onward he played 20min, 79min, 30min, 9min, 30min, 12min, 17min, 83min, 65min and then got injured for the last three games.

We signed Gakpo that January and started playing him upfront and moving Nunez around or bringing him off the bench.

Being a smartarse, but I actually don’t remember him benching Nunez in that first year.

What made him go back to Darwin, do you think? He was all in on him again for 6-7 months.

Blind faith, second chances, not wanting to fail?

Whatever it was it wasn't repaid and both seasons broadly played out the same way.

Third season under Slot did as well, a few goals, big goal drought, redemption game, no noticeable improvement following the redemption, benched.

What's all this stuff that's come out today about "there was no bust up last week" ? had there been accusations that? I just thought he missed last week with illness and that was it?

I've seen some bits today insinuating there were rumours of a fight with slot and others he fought with one of his staff. Is this just normal press stuff to try and dappen our league position?
