Try before buy, Evan Ferguson.

Thought that the other day. The rumour is he is available on loan so would maybe be worth a look though i think both he and Brighton will want him at a club who will guarantee playing time. Mind you with Jota/Chiesa injury record he would likely get it

Erik Meijr was a minor cult hero at Anfield. Crowd loved him. When he got onto the pitch he brought a shedload of energy and positivity with him. And he was a nice lad who still gets on with fans and follows us in games.

But he was a striker. And he couldn't score for toffee. And he was moved on pretty quickly because he couldn't do what we wanted.

Darwin is a nice lad. But, most of the time, he couldn't score if he stood there with the ball and we threw the goal at him. He can't do what we need him to do. We've a body of evidence going back two seasons. And no amount of wishing him into greatness is going to work. It’s time to move him on.

Excellent post. I’ve thought this for a while.

We’ve had these grok cult heroes before - Dundee, Big Erik and others.

Cult heroes are great if you’re a mid-table team because there’s no jeopardy and they bring fun and a welcome lift for fans of teams like Doncaster or Reading.

Darwin isn’t adding value to this team. We can’t afford a funny cult hero.

He brings energy and fun. But little more. These aren’t the attributes of an elite football player.

Nice lad, great character, not good enough at football.

It’s not his fault he’s been promoted above his ability. That’s on the club.

If Darwin was turning out week in week out for Man City or Arsenal we’d be delighted.

I hope Slot can address it. It won’t be through coaching it will need to be through replacement.

No idea what's happened with this guy, because ever since he joined us his finishing has been erratic at best. It's strange because watching the goals he scored for Benfica (not least against us in the CL), his composure stood out.

That last season at Benfica is a complete outlier from any other season. Only looking at league goals(to easy to stat pad in cups/Europa) in seasons he's played at least 28 games he's scored

16 in 30(Spanish 2nd division)

6 in 29

26 in 28

9 in 29

11 in 36

And 2 in 11 this year

He's a 10/12 goal a season striker that had the season of his career when w erythema he hit went in. Klopp/someone fell in love with him and thought it was a break through season and he's just reverted to who he is.

A fair few on here actively don’t want him to score. At all.

Mate, just stop it with this nonsense. There is a difference between not wanting him to score and not believing he’ll score. Everyone would welcome some goals - especially against the shite - they just don’t have any faith in him scoring.

He's just wildly inconsistent to absolute extreme measures and you can't play for Liverpool when you're that wildly inconsistent.

His finishing is wildly inconsistent, just look at the Newcastle game last season and the one just gone. Look at his 3 recent starts in 10 days. Southampton, completely anonymous, Real Madrid, electric, Newcastle, you will not see a worse performance this season.

To be fair his finishing is absolutely consistent. Consistently bad.

Interesting Twitter thread on why Nunez is struggling this season due to Slot’s change in playing style and tactics not suiting his game.

He was struggling last season as well. If Slot's tactics are to blame, then so are Klopp's. He struggled under both of them. I really, really, want him to succeed, but I can't quite think of previous Liverpool strikers who got so long to prove themselves and delivered so little. I hope he sparks into life in the next game and blows every critic away, I really do, but I can't see the logic in blaming anyone else.

Mo Salah on his favourite team-mate:

“It was Firmino, now I feel I generally like playing with Nunez. A lot of people don’t like him but I like playing with him. I see [the Q&A host] keeps shaking his head not liking [my answer]. I like playing with him in general. A player with different skills. Not a lot of people understand his game.”

Ain't that the truth Mo, lots of crescent gazers out there.
