That second chance was a flashback to the title race last season.

It’s great to back him and get behind him, but when you’re in the crunch chasing the league or in a final, you can’t rely on this fella scoring the one chance that drops to you.

That’s a cardinal sin for football fans who’ve routinely watched Hunt/Rush/Fowler/Owen/ Torres need half a chance to bail you out of a terrible performance and steal a 1-0.

Spot on this. I’ve got nothing against Nunez I quite like him.

I do find it mad how we have fans who have watched genuine top quality for the past 8 years or so in Mane, Salah and Firminho who can look at Nunez and argue that he isn’t a downgrade on what we have had or that his performances indicate that he is able to get to that level consistently. Nunez has a lot of good attributes, but he absolutely isn’t the man to fire you to league and champions league titles, which is the level we should be aspiring to.

I will say though, and it's why I didn't want him gone last summer, if you look at our forwards like a collection of profiles, there's not really a striker that is similar to him on the market that I look at and go "he'd be way better for us than Nunez".

We saw Sesko not long ago. It wasn't great, plus his numbers aren't amazing. Maybe Gyokeres but no one can say that's not a risk. He was playing for Coventry at 24 years old. He would have to be an anomaly. Boniface didn't look amazing. Osimhen?

Do liverpool actually have a strikers coach? If not, would it be worth getting someone in to work with him?

Have to be Spanish speaking like which is a shame, otherwise Rushie would be worth a shout if he was willing.

Work with him on being a striker? I mean, he's 25 years old, has been through youth teams, including the under 20s and under 22s at international level, he has played 250 games (including 110 at Liverpool), and has over 30 caps for his country. He's our most expensive player ever. I suspect somebody might have pointed towards the nets and said 'do a goal' before now, if they haven't given him training on how to finish at the top level, then they all need to be fired. Including Klopp, who we would need to rehire just to fire.

My point being, it's a bit fucking late considering he's been like it for us for two and (almost) a half seasons for us. It's time to just accept that although he's got loads of great attributes, seems a genuinely nice lad who runs his bollocks off, he's just not quite there to be leading on of the top five clubs in football. And that's okay, almost nobody does. It doesn't mean he's shit, or a cunt, or whatever... it means he's a few percent shy of what we need, and if we want to compete with the likes of Real Madrid and the Manchester Oilers, we need to be very cutthroat about it.

Fair point, but isn't it at least trying that final tweak?

The days when having a number nine on your back means you have to carry the goalscoring burden more or less single handedly are long gone. Top teams don't operate like that now. Except Man City, and imagine how fucked they'll be if Haaland gets injured.

The idea that we need Nunez to "fire us to league and champions league titles" makes no sense. He isn't going to do that. Nor is Jota. Nor is Diaz. Nor is Gakpo. Not even Mo, not on his own anyway. It's a collective thing and we're currently top of the league and CL and have a good chance of winning one or even both. He's playing his part in that, but even if we win them you'll still have people saying stuff like the above if he isn't scoring 30 a season.

Have we learned nothing from hiring expensive foreigners? We need Premiership experience. Give it HP 'till the end of the season, then go all out for big 'arry Worcestershire.

Listen, I want us to win the league.

Either we break the bank and bring in Gaucha Sauce or we'll get left behind with the likes of Soythampton.

I prefer my lads from County Mayo, not of that tipy-tapas shite. That said, I do like that lad, part English, part Argentinian. Jimmy Churri.
