  1. 1. Should we sign him?

Recommended Posts

He is 26 at the end of this season and has one season of scoring above 16 league goals, and that includes playing for Benfica and Spending a season in the Spanish second division

Jota showed him up last night. He held the ball up more in 5 minutes than Darwin done in 60. Our game plan is really simple, we try play patiently from the back, when we can't we leave 3 up top and their job is to secure the ball. He's never even ready for it, never mind actually doing it.

The Darwin road show has reached its last 8 months, enjoy it while you can. Its been fun and will still be fun, some outrageous moments lie ahead but no way is he still a Liverpool player next season.

I sincerely hope they don't get into a heated, physical, sweaty argument which someone films.

Personally, I’d be particularly appalled if Nunez’s wife found them in the middle of congruous and decided to involve herself.

i think Slot is trying to change him as a player a little. Those of us who liked Darwin, mostly did so because he was always making stuff happen - he didn't even seem to know what he was going to do next, let alone the defender - it was all pure emotion. I am wondering if we have seen the last of that. I said to the lads in the pub after the game he scored that cracker (was that bournemouth?), that to me his all round play looked much calmer, he wasn't getting involved quite as much as he was before, but equally he was probably a little less exciting (the goal aside). I then saw an interview a few days after where Virg said something like "he needs to be calmer, but it is on us all in the team to help him keep calm". I thought what he did there last night was a very calm performance again. He did some nice lay offs, but we just didn't create enough in the game - and he wasn't doing his normal one man mission to make a goal. But I do think that the lack of chances last night was partly down to his style. We seemed a man short in midfield all the time to me and when Jota came on, he did loads of dropping deep and finding space, which improved us as a side (and led to the 2nd goal) - I don't think that is really darwin. He wants to play on the last man. So we need to find a way that services that, or perhaps find a different way to get that extra body in midfield that doesn't mean the player playing 9 has to do it.

So we've clipped the feathers off the peacock in the hopes that will turn him into an eagle.

Can't see it going well.

Yeah he's a good player to have in the squad for various reasons, but a bad signing at the price. He's not going to work in the Slot system so that doesn't help his cause, but I don't even think Klopp would have got the best out of him. We've seen his best and it's not good enough for £60m+ or the number 9 shirt.

i think maybe we need to see how the season unfolds with slot. he is definitely working on him, and there's signs darwin is a bit different. it's a long season.

I think it was one of his most disappointing performances. The expectations are low when deciding not to shoot through 2 players from 18 yards out and playing a square ball instead is lauded as some elevated decision-making.

He has a lot of utility to Slot because when teams want to play tight and aggressive, he has the ability to scare them with his runs. Bologna were doing exactly that, and he couldnt create any danger at all. It is not a good sign.

I wouldn't put all that on Nunez though. There was a period mid way through the 1st half to mid way through the 2nd where we could hardly get out of our half unless it was a long ball to the wings. Even when they worked a lot of the times the next pass was shit.

Ignoring the fact he can't finish his dinner, or that his English is still crap.

It still appears that nobody has explained the offside rule to him.

I've honestly, never, ever seen a player offside so often in my bloody life.

I remember torres back in the day, if he was called offside, and that was obviously pre var. You'd shout at the TV, I bet he's bloody on. And 99 times out of 100, he was onside.

That's the difference, he can't time his runs. He hasn't got the brains to do it.

Perhaps our pitch is too small for him, so that affects his judgements, I don't know. Or maybe we bought him when he had the anomaly of a super season.

It's kind of like rashford, was it two years ago he had a decent goal scoring season. And utd fans where giving it the large one. I think it might have been goldbridge, and he was tying head of sense, saying, that no, rashford had an anomaly of a season, and all his other crapppy scoring seasons are his usuals, the high scoring ones go against the grain.

Unfortunately, I think we bought Darwin off the back of two great games against us, and the fact he had a worldly season in a farmers league.

Do you not remember this guy?

Of course, and I do think he'll have his uses. If he'd cost £30m and was number 29 he'd be less divisive and most would accept him as a useful squad player

He's cost what he's cost. Ultimately the club needs him to work out. On a personal level, if they do take away his madness, I will miss it. But there might be more chance of success with a more boring Darwin.

He's shit, sadly. I wish he wasn't, because it's clear he's giving everything and that he loves playing for us. The support he gets is completely understandable, as he has such an endeering character.

But, he's think as mince and Timo Werner like in front of goal. Binned next summer, presumably.

Sure there was an occasion last night he was too busy playing with his hair when we were looking to release the ball to him.

That didn’t happen at all. He’s Uruguayan not Jamie Redknapp.

From my seat at the back of the Kop, it certainly looked like it. A few of us commented on it.

I’m not writing him off this season yet, only a fool would. Look at the improvements we’ve seen in Gravenberch and Diaz so far. I sincerely hope Slot can soon start to get improvements out of him, if he has turned it round come May, there is no future for him here.

I see Sesko has a release clause that can be activated this summer for £55m. Openda has an £80m release clause that can be activated in the summer. Vlahović seems to be in a bit of a contract stand off with Juventus, he will only have 12m left on his contract in the summer.

Sesko and Openda sound like 2 companies that dodgy Tories would give government contracts to.
