More or less word for word what I put in a WhatsApp group when the chance happened.

Could you have seen Torres, Fowler, Owen, Mane, Sturridge, Suarez etc doing that yesterday?

Even Milan Baros would have rounded the keeper with that opportunity.

I think he’ll get another season under the new manager to prove himself, and so he should because imo (I know many or most disagree) he’ll become a great striker. If next season he doesn’t prove it, fair enough, sell him.

The simple solution is for our midfield to stop farting around on the ball and pass it to him quicker. I was annoyed at the last chance - yes, he should have gone around the keeper, but if that chance was ten minutes earlier, they would have had a more serious check on whether the keeper handled outside the area. Actually, given the performance of Coote and whoever was on VAR, probably not.

Just out of curiosity, at what point does it become his responsibility and not the responsibility of everyone around him?

He got the ball early yesterday, into his stride, and fucked it, open goals, fucked them, half chances fucked them, headers, nope, crossed along the floor in the 6 to 8 yards out, no again.

The Brentford goal that someone else mentioned is symptomatic of his issue, it's audacious to try that but it's not brave, he's tried it before and he tried it after that goal and fucked it each time, it's a fundamental flaw in his make up that his first thought isn't to round the keeper and score 5 goals it's to try that and hope it goes in 1 in 20 times (although if the Toulouse attempt is anything to go by maybe the odds are about the same).

*Despite the above I don't think we can get rid of him this summer, but next season absolutely has to be the turning point or he's two years from the end of his contract and we can't offer him a new one.

I’m not convinced.

Look at Richarlson yesterday. He held us run, checked back and then went again about half a dozen times. He was an absolute menace for us when he came on yesterday.

When does Nunez ever check / hold his runs like that?

There was that one game against Utd when he inexplicably stopped running for what would have been an open goal, does that count?

If we were to attempt to sell him, I do wonder if there are any clubs about who would be willing to pay a >£60m to sign him?

Would be surprised if we’ve paid more than £40-50m of the reported £70m plus add on’s, this early in the contract.

Interested clubs would likely know this and may offer to pay Liverpool their money back, if we wanted him gone.

Then there’s always Saudi…

Richarlison went almost the whole of last season without a goal didn’t he?

Irrelevant to the point I’ve made.

Who knows.

Would anybody in Spain or Italy want / be able to afford that price even?

More comments about Nunez than our brilliant 4-2 win or any aspect of it which is a tad bizarre. Mr public enemy number 1 no matter whether he starts, doesn't, is subbed or comes on with the game already done.

Always going to back players who give their all and who I enjoy watching play and Nunez is a player I enjoy watching play....his movement is the best we have amongst our forward players which is why he's on the end of all our chances if not creating them , I understand people wanting to shit on him for missing chance after chance but it gets a little much when it's all it's being talked about after a win.

Be happy and enjoy the win, that's what football is supposed to be about.

Agree. I like him and I think he will have a good career. I hope it's here but if he cites a 'lack of support' from internet 'fans' as one of the reasons he leaves then I could understand a little. Its fortunate that fans at the ground give him positive support too.

I didn’t go yesterday, however, his support inside the ground has always been excellent.

Interesting Chris saying there was some disgruntled supporters when he missed that one on one at the end. I thought it might have been claiming handball, I was only on the TV, not in the Kop.

Honestly wondering if he's not rounding the keeper because he's fearing missing the open goal after it. There's got to be some reason he's not doing it though, maybe he's so stubborn with how he wants to score that he's sick of messing the one on ones up and he's trying to score a bunch instead but he's not focusing and placing his shots. I've read that some idiots have been sending him threatening messages which could be why he's deleted all his instagram posts, it seems like a drastic move though instead of blocking/reporting them instead. Maybe he's sick of how things are going and really wants out.

It's also weird how things alternate with him and Gakpo. One of them plays and will usually get a goal here and there and be seen as ok while the other is subbed on in later stages of games and gets stick if they're not instantly playing well. Gakpo was getting shit for it not long back, now it's Nunez again. I don't think either of them are the super sub type player and both need regular games.

I've thought for a while now though that Gakpo seems more suited. he might not get as many goals or assists as Nunez would on top form but he seems to fit into the team better and could be more consistent over time. And he now has the advantage of Slot arriving so maybe that's also on the mind of Nunez.

Nicolas Jackson has two more league goals than him, nothing else needs to be said tbh.

An indefensible statistic.

I feel like I’m being a Darwin hater today, I’m not, not really. I genuinely do like him as a player.

Unfortunately, I think the penny has dropped this is the best we’re going to get from him.

I know Slot might improve him, given how all our attackers players have flourished under Klopp, I’m dubious what extra Slot can teach.

Hope I’m wrong.

I don't think he needs teaching anything special, maybe only needs the manager to help him relax more and give him regular games. Or it could be that whatever system Slot uses could suit him more in some way if he ends up staying.

I sincerely hope you’re right. I think he’s had more than enough minutes, opportunities and certainly chances.

His all round game is generally good, can you teach that ice in your vibes composure somebody like Sturridge or Mane had?
