I have heard so many things about French people over the years but this was my first experience of them in large numbers.

 

I’m not one to parrot stereotypes as I prefer to experience things and then make my own mind up.

 

With some notable exceptions, I found them generally to be fucking obnoxious it pains me to say. I’ve been to so many European countries and have never come away thinking that about their people.

 

I feel bad even saying this as Arnaud has been so helpful with his time and support for those travelling over but it’s just how I feel based on my experiences over the last few days.

 

Can’t see me ever bothering with going to France again.

Been to France twice. Paris IMO is a place I wouldnt visit again. Brittany ,and its people , is brilliant.

It's an abstract generalisation wherever you go. The practical point is that many people familiar with the area near the stadium seemed to have a markedly negative opinion of it, and yet there was no indication, no warning, about this, as far as I know, prior to the game.

La nouvelle ministre des Sports, même de plein exercice, a peu de marge de manoeuvre, et une soirée passée au côté du ministre de l'Intérieur au PC sécurité du stade l'a laissée prisonnière d'une ligne, fût-elle intenable. Mais son tweet de samedi soir - « Les tentatives d'intrusion et de fraude de milliers de supporters anglais ont compliqué le travail des stadiers et des forces de police, mais ne terniront pas cette victoire » - concentre un cliché et une faute, et c'est une drôle d'entrée en matière.

 

Ce matin, tous ces coorganisateurs ont beaucoup de chance de n'être coresponsables que du chaos et pas d'un drame. La soirée a été miraculeusement épargnée par tous les éléments constitutifs de la tragédie, et ils n'y sont pour presque rien. La foule a été exceptionnellement calme et patiente, compte tenu des circonstances, il n'y a pas eu d'affrontements entre supporters, pas un gramme de hooliganisme, alors que blâmer les fans pour le chaos est un scénario trop familier pour l'Angleterre et Liverpool, après que les enquêtes ont démontré la faillite et les mensonges de la police lors de la tragédie de Hillsborough (97 morts), en 1989.

 

La première finale de la Coupe d'Europe a eu lieu au Parc des Princes, en 1956, et la dernière en date sera sûrement la dernière avant longtemps : qui pourrait avoir envie de revenir au Stade de France se confronter à l'organisation et à la sécurité françaises après le chaos d'un samedi noir ?

 

Ce n'est pas la question que l'on s'attendait à poser, à l'aube d'un enchaînement qui nous semblait lumineux pour la France et son stade iconique, avec la Coupe du monde de rugby en 2023, puis les Jeux Olympiques de 2024. À cette question et à tant d'autres, il faudra bien d'autres réponses que celles qui ont été proposées, depuis samedi, par un tweet ou un communiqué comme on se lave les mains.

Hey, here's a novel idea. How's about you put numerous checkpoint in place to make sure all these ticketless/fake ticket fans don't get anywhere near the fucking stadium?

And how about giving the fans of the clubs involved a decent allocation rather than boxing off the “UEFA family”. Fucking brazen cunts.
