I appreciate his attacking role (which he's been pretty mediocre at recently, despite his obvious talent in that respect). It's just that he reacts far too slowly to threats in the opposite direction. "Too casual" is a commentator's description from the FA Cup final. It's true. At his worst, he's dozy. 

 

You do realise he's not the first ever attacking full back / wing back? It's just some are more balanced in their overall game.

 

And the reason he's not first choice for England isn't because Southgate is an idiot (he certainly isn't defensively) or because he's anti-Scouse. It's because Southgate doesn't trust him.

Thiago, Mane, Diaz, Matip and Alisson have played well, Roberston, Henderson, Trent, Keita and Konate all well below the required level.
