Saying they let us off the hook rather than we stepped up

If you didn't know better, you'd be forgiven for thinking Ferdinand never played high level football with comments like that. Does he think you can press and defend high like they did for a full 90 minutes?

Hard to tell whether Villareal's second half display was tactical or they were knackered. Maybe a bit of both, as it's hard to keep up that kind of press for 90 minutes.

Seemed like they reverted to their Anfield tactics though; sit back, and look to break.

Weird game.

Defo both. It will be a really interesting tie to revisit and analyze in the future. The way Villarreal approached it.

I feel a bit silly for being so worried at halftime now.  I should have had more faith in this team after all they've achieved. It really was an  absolutely horrific first half, though. We completely sorted it out in the second half, though, and were just as dominant as in the first leg. We got a bit lucky with some of the goals with their keeper (who also looked really dodgy in the first leg) having a shocker, but right from the start of the second half we just looked like a completely different team. Well done to all the players for sorting it out and reaching yet another final.

Hopefully Madrid turn it around tomorrow night, but I think we're heading for the Champions League final with City that has been looking like it would inevitably happen at some point ever since Klopp and Guardiola arrived at the respective clubs. If we miss out on the league narrowly to them yet again then let's at least stop them from getting their grubby, cheating hands on the one trophy they really want.

Can if you’re on PEDs (which he knows all about).

As Stacksy said, I think both. Once the game became level, Emery definitely reverted to type, dropping off hoping to keep it tight. Played right into our hands. I don't think they could have kept up the press anyway.

Absolutely magnificent fight back. What character!

Credit to the opponents - they threw everything into the first half but didn't have enough left once we upped our game.

I quite like this ref but he very weirdly let certain players get away with foul after foul in the first half.

BT must have a fixation on Emery - when he was at Arsenal they had a special camera on him, even though all he does is wave his hands around a bit, and they seemed dazzled by him here, too.

Trent was mentally fatigued, I think that was the problem. He just made tired decisions.

Amazing to think we've done so well for a month or so with Salah being shite. Why the feck can't he EVER use his right foot??? He's on the right wing, he just HAS to be able to use it every now and then!

But what a performance. Lots of teams would've collapsed.. Ours soared.

Salah was superb again tonight for about the fifth game on te trot. Always gave us an outlet. Always made the pitch bigger.
