Songs that mention writers or books

Not a fan of Sting but his first solo album is okay this one is based on "Interview with a Vampire" by Anne Rice.

If you're going to quote from the Book of Revelation
Don't keep calling it the Book of Revelations

Half Man Half Biscuit - Shit Arm, Bad Tattoo

That’s brilliant. We need a thread dedicated to favourite Half man half biscuit song titles.

'It's the way you don't read Camus or Bret Easton Ellis' - Obsessions by Suede. Great band when at their best, but it's a poor song on an awful album.

Haha, that's the perfect Suede review.

I think the title is pretty self explanatory. Here’s a starter

Country house by Blur ; “He's reading Balzac, knocking back Prozac”

He's reading Dante

Having tea with his auntie

He's reading Milton

Wolfing down Stilton

He's reading Göthe

With a prozzie called Bertha

Piece of piss this songwriting lark.

An indirect reference but in "Philadelphia" by Magazine Howard Devoto says

"Everything would be just fine

If I'd had a different pastime

I'd have been Raskolnikov

But Mother Nature ripped me off"

Had that on in the car this morning.

He’s reading Shelly

Whilst eating jelly

He’s reciting Zola

with a rum and coca cola

He’s quoting Wilfred Owen

to try and get her going

Xanadu by Olivia Neutron Bomb and ELO or Dave Dee Dozy,Beaky,Mick and Titch with The Legend of Xanadu. I believe they quote a passage in the Dave Dee song also.

Deacon Blue and Dignity

'And I'm reading Maynard Keynes and all that that means.'
