I think the title is pretty self explanatory. Here’s a starter

Country house by Blur ; “He's reading Balzac, knocking back Prozac”

He's reading Dante

Having tea with his auntie

He's reading Milton

Wolfing down Stilton

He's reading Göthe

With a prozzie called Bertha

Piece of piss this songwriting lark.

An indirect reference but in "Philadelphia" by Magazine Howard Devoto says

"Everything would be just fine

If I'd had a different pastime

I'd have been Raskolnikov

But Mother Nature ripped me off"

Had that on in the car this morning.

He’s reading Shelly

Whilst eating jelly

He’s reciting Zola

with a rum and coca cola

He’s quoting Wilfred Owen

to try and get her going

As does Gin-Soaked Boy by The Divine Comedy.

What a band.

Something for the Weekend used to be like drugs to me and my mates when we were in our 20’s. Enough in-fact that on our way home from a festival after 4 days of carnage, one lad suggested the pub to a chorus of “fuck off nobhead” then he decided to play that song on the stereo we’d managed not to have robbed and we all went straight the pub and I think all but one of us were still officially in a relationship the next day and that was only because his missus was with us.
