Inpatient for a new midfielder.

The 3 Portuguese lads were being linked with; Mateus Nunes, Fabio Veira and Vitinha, anybody know much about any of them? Any preferences, who be the better fit for us?

Not another one, we've had enough of them thanks.

None of them start for Portugal.

I genuinely think we may see a 2 man midfield become the new way this season.

4-2-3-1

We'll probably see a traditional 4-2-3-1/4-2-2-2 and a 4-2-3-1 from a 4-3-3 base depending on personnel.

If we have  players like Carvalho or Firmino lining up with Diaz/Nunez/Salah it'll be a more traditional 4-2-3-1/4-2-2-2 with Carvalho/Firmino playing as the second striker/No.10.

If we see a third midfielder lining up alongside a Fabinho/Thiago or Fabinho/Henderson 2 man base then the third midfielder (Keita/Jones/Elliot/Henderson) will play the attacking 8/No.10 starting from deeper positions.

I'd be surprised if that Attacking 8/No.10/Second Striker position wasn't the most subbed position in the team this year as we alternate through all the variations during the course of a game.

4-2-3-1 is attractive on paper, but the reality is that if you don't have a world class #10, you're sacrificing solidity for an extra creative player that isn't that good in our case. Firmino is just all right there and Carvalho is an unknown quantity. If he turns out to be Coutinho 2.0 then why not, but otherwise, meh. We usually go 4-2-3-1 already if we're chasing a goal. Or 4-2-4.

The good thing about chess is that none of your pieces get injured or just wander off. 'Your knight's just buggered off'. 'Yeah, shame, that. There's a gorgeous one hand-carved out of Kowamura Bud Rosewood that's going on sale next year - I'll wait for that one'.

Can they get any worse if they tried? What is even the point of this article? To say we signed Ramsay so Trent can play in midfield? Something that Southgate did and left Klopp wanting to rip Southgate's head off?

Echo have now tried every angle possible to justify the "we have decided to prioritise the midfield in 2023", its embarassing.

To get people to click on it and share it so other people then click on it and share it.

Supporters have made 'save them millions' a thing so now they're leaning into it to generate traffic.

Fair play to them.

I don’t care what anybody says it’s a massive problem. Some have been flagging it up for some time and If it’s not sorted it will cost us.

Thiago - world class but made of Sturridge

Fabhino - Quality player but likes an injury and can stink it up on occasion.

Keita- just fire him into the sun, injury prone and shit

Milner- he’s 127

Henderson - Good player but not great

Jones- Will never make it, nowhere near good enough, injury prone as well

Elliot- A prospect

Carvalho- A prospect.

I don’t see how you win the Premier with that.

To be fair we came within a point.

A fair point but can we keep doing it with that midfield. I honestly don’t think so especially with more competition coming through with Spurs and Chelsea in particular. Obviously here’s hoping but I just don’t see it.
