A people really fuming we haven’t signed a player that wouldn’t be coming to us until the summer anyway?

Fulham have had our pants down? How? Their are going to end up getting less money for Carvalho now than they would have done yesterday.

We’ve loaned them Neco Williams. Sorry, but so what? He’s played in the Premiership once this season, he won’t play the League Cup Final or anymore CL games. He might have played in the FA Cup, but we still have Gomez, Milner and Bradley who can play in his position.

If Carvalho wasn’t sure about us, then it’s frankly his loss. If he’s still keen on us, he’ll come in the summer.

We managed to get Neco Williams to them in time though. Makes me think something has been arranged for the summer already.

Yes. I think there may well be something in this.

EDIT: Anyway, I think we're all missing the real point here. Rog started two 'welcome to' threads before it was done, thereby clearly jinxing it. How do we make him pay?

We didn't actually want to pay the £8m. We just wanted to show the kid that we'd go above and beyond to sign him. We'll get him for cheaper in the summer. It's all a fugazi so we can go to the tribunal and say "look, we tried".

Surely if we offered and agreed £8 million though the tribunal will just set the fee at £8 million?

If we offered £8m, it's a fair bet the tribunal settle on that figure. How would we argue it should be lower when he wasn't going to join us till the summer anyway?

No chance he's less than Elliott.

It could be £4m with £4m in performance bonuses though, which is better than £8m fixed.

Ha. I’m less against it that some.

He gave Zaha nothing in the Palace game in September when Trent was sick. Obviously fortunate v City but still played a key role in Mane’s opener.

As an emergency, he’s fine.

The tribunal wont say 8ml, simple fact is he will be out of contract. It will be a factor but it will be a smaller fee and future add ons will bring it up. Reckon a 5/6ml overall fee.

We can't officially sign him to June/July as a bosman, so any deal will be kept quiet till then. Unless we do a deal with Fulham in the coming days and it will go through in July

Why are people so angry about this? It's bizarre. We offered £5million for him, they wanted more. To settle on £8 million in the end for a 19 year old championship player is a fair bit of change. The Increase of £3 million is not a small amount for a young kid playing in the lower leagues (with only 6 months on his contract)

The club obviously tried to haggle them on this and get a better deal on the last day, but looks like Fulham drove a hard bargain.

Not sure why we have gone from one of the best clubs in the world at negotiating transfers to now being called amateurs. Sometimes the owners can't win with our fans.

It’ll also take far longer for Fulham to get paid if it goes to a tribunal.

We signed Ings on July’15. The tribunal wasn’t settled until April’16.

We signed Elliott on July’19. The tribunal wasn’t settled until Feb’21.

It's absolutely ridiculous that there hasn't been a time limit placed on tribunal decisions. They just drag on and on. You sign a player, it goes to tribunal, they make a ruling - that shouldn't take more than a couple of months, tops. I mean, what are they doing, using VAR's thin blue line to determine VFM?

Hopefully with Neco Williams there on loan he can be the voice in the player's ear and put in constant good words about the club. Not too dissimilar to when we sent Joe Cole on loan to Lille except he managed to convince Hazard to join Chelsea and not us.

I think we are going to face competition for him in the summer as other clubs will want to steal him under noses as a real coup and to appease their own fans. Could imagine Levy being desperate to do us over for this considering the Diaz deal, not sure what they can offer though. Hopefully Man united are waiting on their managerial future otherwise it would not surprise me if they offered twice the wages we have offered just so that they can appear to compete in attracting players that are linked to their rivals, which has been somewhat their scatter gun transfer policy.

I think the delay is deliberate. The lazy tribunal twats really want the clubs to reach an agreement so they dont have to doany 'work.'

You look at some of the recent tribunals and all they have done is decided on a figure between what the buying club wants to pay and what the selling club wants.

If this Carvalho 'deal' goes to tribunal, Fulham will ask for at least £10m which is apparently what they wanted. But they agreed a fee of £8m. I wouldnt for one moment think the tribunal will say to them 'you agreed on £8m so that's our decision.' They'll probably go Liverpool must pay at least £9m!
