Very sad news about 2 German Police officers, one 24, the other 29, shot and killed in Germany after a 'routine' traffic stop.

 

Two police officers were fatally shot early Monday morning during a routine traffic stop, police in southwestern Germany said.

The shooting happened during a traffic check near Kusel at about 4:20 a.m., police in Kaiserslautern said in a statement.

The two deceased officers are a 24-year-old woman and 29-year-old man. The younger officer killed was still studying at a police academy, the GdP police union said.

 

Police were searching for the suspects, who fled the scene, police in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate said in a statement.

German news agency dpa, citing unidentified security sources, said that the officers reported finding dead game in the car before the shooting started. The Bild daily also reported that find, without citing sources.

"Regardless of the motive, this crime is reminiscent of an execution and shows that the police risk their lives for our security every day," Interior Minister Nancy Faeser tweeted. She said that "we will do everything" to catch the perpetrators.

Germany's GdP police union expressed its "deep shock and sadness" over the shooting.

 

"Our thoughts are with the relatives and loved ones of the colleagues who died as a result of an act of violence in the line of duty," GdP deputy chief Joerg Radek said.
