My Mrs doesn't drink and hasn't done for 20 years. Given that when we initially met 21 years ago, she just completely changed from being lovely sober, to a jealous and unpredictable psycho when she had a few bevvies, i fully endorsed her decision to stop drinking. There is no way we would still be together if she had carried on. So i have no issue with people who don't drink, i am curious when it's people who have never even tried it once though.

Also, it allowed me to get hammered and get a lift home every time we went out too. Win/win.

My missus, prior to us getting hitched, used to get mullered on Diamond White.

Having known her for 25 years, never been drunk, which is brilliant for me, as she is my full time designated driver.

Lovely-jubbly.

Are they/we related?

I like a drink, always have but I don't drink anything like I used to which if I'm being honest, was far too much.

A couple of beers or a bourbon in front of the telly, a bit more if I'm watching the unmentionable or if there's a family get together, but that's about it these days.

I lost my brother in law, who I loved as a brother through alcoholism 15 years ago and the way he was made me look at myself a bit. I didn't want to go there.

He was a great fella, ex army, a bit of a rogue, hard as nails, very protective and laugh a minute company. Then the booze got him and he turned into something unrecognisable and someone you just wanted to avoid who did some terrible things.

We tried everything to get him to stop drinking, but he was too far gone. He lied, stole, cheated and conned his way to a lonely death which judging by the state of his flat must have been very painful. He had only turned 50 two months before.

His mum, who was raised in the school of hard knocks found him and was never the same again.

They reckon a traumatic experience can trigger Alzheimer's and we're pretty much certain that this was the cause of hers.

When drink gets a proper hold on you it changes you. You lose sensibility and judgement and it's very hard to take back control. I've seen it, and as I said earlier in this post, I didn't want to go there, so moderation is the best policy for me.

Respect to Geoff Woade. You should be proud of yourself mate.

Can someone start a thread with "How Do You View Someone Who Doesn't Drive?" as that really freaks me out.

I am a non-driver. Always lived within 25 minutes of the city centre and happy to get public transport to anywhere further afield. Cars and driving have always looked unappealing to me.

I'm another non driver, had a couple goes at learning but ran out of money, first time round because I was a teenager and would barely make the cost of a lesson from my part time job and the 2nd time ended when I got made redundant just over 3 years ago.

I absolutely hated driving lessons 2nd time round, just about the only time I can remember ever getting anxious was before lessons. I was also a really bad student, would nail say parking after working on it for a couple weeks, then move on to some other weakness and my parking would be shit again.

I'd like to drive and understand then benefits more than most would realise, but I don't envy the expense and stress it seems to cause people. I'd probably take the train as an alternative if I had the choice, too.

As for booze, it is a bit crazy how much of our culture revolves around it. Almost all adult socialisation seems to involve a side order of drink. I'm one that enjoys the taste of alcohol more than the experience of getting drunk nowadays, seems like ages ago since I last got noticeably drunk and had a great time. I should probably have a go at giving it up for a month or something and see how I feel.

I don't understand people who enjoy driving. It's just a chore that you have to do to get to places.

A long drive in the countryside with your favorite music blaring is one of life's great pleasures.

Just had 4 days on it from Thursday through to last night. Disregarding the shakes subsiding after the 2nd or 3rd pint and not farting with confidence for 3 days. Ive been fine. If anything I’ve developed a real taste for cider, which is a bit of a revelation.

If anyone is intrigued about the sober life; anyone who is struggling or anyone that just wants to know a little bit more- Remmie put me in touch with a friend of his who got sober and wrote blogs about his drunken antics and the reason why he got sober.

I'm part of a sober FB group that he now runs that has gone from a small hundred or so like mixed individual to 8,000 members.

the link is below if anyone wants to know more.

And if anyone wants to read the blogs and story's of shifting yourself and other disgusting shit the link is below

I got sober and my life is 100 times better than it was drunk.

My dad was an alcoholic .I seem to have a variant of Asian flush( I'm not Asian or of Asian heritage). So I've been unable drink two days on trot since I was 20.

I think if it wasn't for that I'd be an alcoholic. Instead the stinking hangovers keep me to once a week (or twice if I'm off work) the thing is I love being pissed. I love staggering outside, lighting a cig and listening to some music. Just for a moment it takes me back to the late 90s again.

Its sad because most weeks all I'm looking forward to is cracking a beer open at the weekend

There's not a lot  in relationships that causes more friction than when one person likes a drink and the other doesn't, not had that myself but close friends have and its a fucking nightmare.

I must admit it does cause some friction between us from time to time but she's also drastically cut down the last 6 minths
