Klopp has done an interview about the signing on the offal and says Diaz will join up with the squad straight after his international duty with Colombia.

What the article says is we contacted Porto to ask about Diaz because he was our number one target but they initially quoted us 80m (his buy out clause). We turned it down. Then due to the financial difficulties they were in, they put the feelers out that they'd sell him for 60m plus add-ons. Again, we weren't interested at that price but said we'd be back in the summer. Porto needed to sell him in January. They'd already deferred some of the payments to us in relation to Grujic. 

 

We told Porto to keep us in the loop if a fee was agreed with anybody else. Levy began negotiations with Porto after hearing about the 60m plus add-ons thing. They eventually agreed a 45 million euro fee with 15 million in add ons, but the key thing is the add ons are very hard to achieve. This was taken to FSG and they agreed to match it. Porto asked for 8 million for this coming Monday to pay off the financial stuff and FSG agreed to do that. Klopp Facetimed Diaz to get a view on his character and they got on very well. Diaz specifically chose us over Spurs. He had the option of both but wanted to play for us.
