We were very sloppy and careless in possession and created our own problems. 2 up and we did not need to be so open,we could have picked them off while they were trying to get back into the game. We were too open.

Tsimikas is brilliant and a fighter and kellagher done a great job, no chance for any keeper with the second goal.

In the 3 Chelsea and City games we have been ahead on 3 occasions once by two goals and level playing against 10 men for a whole half , but I have never been confident we were going to win in any of them. We do need to be able to tighten up a bit if needs be , like we used to do a couple of years ago.

Felt like chelsea were desperate to win that. I'm thinking we're now the 3rd best side in the league purely because of squad depth and how we deal with conceding this last 18 months. That taking a 2 goal lead and still being worried about getting all points has resurfaced.

We're entering the Rodgers territory of needing to be 3 or 4 up to feel comfortable.

Going from a team that could pass teams to death and destroy them with pace, we've morphed into a side that can't find it's arse with both hands.

It's a tired (mentally and physically) stale side demonstrating the lack of investment in it. I don't think it's any coincidence that the Greek is looking like our best performer most games he plays.

The only positions we actually have competition are centre back and left back.

We have about eight midfielders but most of them are either too old, too young, too injured, or simply too shit, to be starting for a team that should be challenging for major honours.

Similarly it doesn't matter if Mane or Salah have bad games because the alternative is playing Origi or Minamino.

It's a team on the way out, sadly.

A very unforgiving view.

We were going along fine until Covid fucked us.

If Keita was any good or even reliable, this midfield problem would barely exist. People will say lack of investment, but we have a 55m midfielder who almost doesn't play and gets Milner picked ahead of him. Chelsea ate us for breakfast in midfield. If Thiago plays, that doesn't happen, but you cant rely on one player.

The lack of investment is seen in the fact that we only have 4 forwards we can play regularly so if one's missing, you only have 3 and we play a 4-3-3, so then you only have Origi, who despite his contributions, we all know his limitations.

We're basically at a point where the midfield doesn't perform anymore because we're old there or big transfers haven't performed or played enough and 3 of the 4 forwards we regularly play have their contracts close to running out.

It's an issue of not selling and replacing certain players when we should have and then not buying one more forward ahead of time.

So is it a case that Klopp simply isn't ruthless enough? Or has he tried to get the club to cut our losses with the likes of Chamberlain and Keita and been told by the club that they aren't going unless we get x amount?

It doesn't make much sense. He's a world class football manager but his perseverance with the two mentioned above is baffling. They are injured a lot, and usually not very good when they aren't.

Could Robbo or Tsimikas play in a different position sometimes to accommodate both?  I’d try Tsimikas in midfield. Why not, on the evidence of yesterday’s midfield efforts? Two warriors, will be a shame to bench one when both are available.

Other way round, maybe? Scotland play Robbo in midfield, not sure if Tsimikas has ever played in midfield?

Given your last sentence, who is going to buy them at anything other than a massive loss?  And do FSG tend to entertain selling players at a massive loss?

It's so short sighted though. We end up with a worse team, a waste of the resources regarding the wage bill, and them making less money.

We drew 2-2 after being 2-0 up. It was far from ideal but we didn't lose 5-0 and gave the reigning European Champions a run for their money. Just chill.

We were doing alright, but the fixture list had been about as kind as possible for the first half of the season, and we were already throwing away a lot of stupid points.

I think the effect of Covid and the psychological effect is probably understated.  It must be hard for our team to go toe to toe with Man City, and then there's an outbreak coupled with injuries and we're in trouble.  We were on their coattails until the quick succession of tough fixtures.  Right over the Xmas period, too.  Can't lay the blame at the door of anyone for that, in my opinion, including FSG.  Shit happens.

Could easily happen to Man City too, though.  They could get an outbreak, a few injuries and enter a tough run of games at any time.
