Best martial arts films

Love a good martial arts film. What are your favourites?

 

Ong-Bak and Warrior King with Tony Jaa take some beating, both stunning films.

 

There's a scene in one of them where Jaa fights his way into a resta!urant and up it's staircase, has to be seen to be believed.

 

And who's gonna be first with the JCVD drunken dancing / snake punch gifs?

King Boxer if you want to see eyes poked out.

Used to love them and recently tried to watch all Bruce Lee films again, gave up on Game of Death, he was gone. Get over it and ditch the project.

Chiang Chi was excellent.

I prefer them old school, either when they were made or at least a period setting. Warriors Two, Snake in Eagle's Shadow, Five Deadly Venoms (listen out for the Wu Tang sample) etc. 

 

Favourite final scene is Prodigal Son (excuse the video quality, but it's only one with the dubbing, which is essential in my view).

The first Ip-Man with Donnie Yen. Got me into practicing Wing Chun.

 

A lot of Jackie Chan's 80s/90s stuff was funny as fuck. Project A always had me in stitches, but you have to find the original dubbed one not the version that was released later. 

 

Watched loads over the years, too many to mention.

Bruce Lee v Bob Wall and also him twatting the guards in Enter the Dragon, silly i know but good to watch as a kid wishing you could that. 

Ive only ever seen the Bruce Lee ones.

I saw this one as a kid on VHS and loved it - Jackie Chan, The Young Master - looks so cheesy now though.

Fist of the North Star is also brilliant. The Japanese 80s animation that is and not the abhorrent 90s American movie with the penn brother who was in pulp fiction.

The martial arts in both Kill Bill films are superb. Ditto The House of Flying Daggers and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.
