How much fun was that! It may have only been the League Cup but Anfield was rocking like it was a big European night, as the understrength Reds came from 2-0 down to overcome Leicester's first eleven and set up a semi final clash with Arsenal.

Chris Smith is joined by TLW Editor Dave Usher to recap a breathtaking night at Anfield as great goals by Ox, Jota and a stoppage time cracker from Minamino took us to pens and Klopp's men held their nerve to send the raucous Anfield crowd home with a spring in their step.

Six minutes in, an epic rant for the ages by Chris about Leicester. You don't want to miss this one.

You're not joking - that was a quality Ben Hur epic style rant!

Also good, but less epic, was Neil Atkinson's:

"Feed The Scousers, by the way? We feast tonight on your broken dreams you absolute frigging ghouls. Enjoy the trip back to Leicester where the streets are paved with gold.”

If defenders, Soyuncu, Evans and Pereira, along with Vardy are going to be doubtful for the league game next week, that makes it all the more likely we'll shove their 'Feed the Scousers' chants right down their throats, home and away inside a week. Not that having Pereira fit would be any major obstacle to that. Any more injuries and they might have to be digging up more old geezers out of car parks.

On the penalties, I'm pretty sure I saw Milner give the first one to them, after they won the toss.

Very strange decision on the face of it, but it is based on some study someone did a few years back that claimed you have a 60/40 advantage going first.

EDIT - there were 2 tosses, one for the side and one for the first kicker.

That's been misinterpreted apparently, because he didn't take into account who won the toss.

An analysis of 207 penalty shootouts in 14 international football tournaments between July 2003 and August 2017, including the World and European Championships, found that only 56 percent of all captains opted to go first, while the remaining 44 percent sent their keepers into the goal first. Shooting second could be a strategic decision, the researchers suggest, if the team's own goalkeeper is considered better than that of the other team and more likely to make a save.

As a result, the evaluation confirms earlier studies, according to which the decision to take the first penalty kick does not bring an advantage. In the games analysed, the winning frequency of the teams kicking first was only about 51 per cent. The result of the coin toss, on the other hand, made a difference: about 60 percent of the teams whose captains won the draw were able to win the subsequent penalty shootout. This is significantly better than the 50 percent chance one might expect if the captains' decision did not matter.

The podcast  was brilliant and so refreshing - thanks to you both! Agreed on the referee, I thought he was good, he's a big guy too - I think it gets him more respect.

He was the 4th official at the Arsenal game and he handled the handbags between Kloppp and Arteta well.
