Premier League Round Up (Dec 4-6 2021)

Decent weekend for us overall as Chelsea lost and then we won in stoppage time. City winning obviously wasn’t ideal but you can’t have everything.

A week ago we were four points behind Chelsea but after they were held to a draw by the Mancs and then lost to Moyes all of a sudden we’re now a point ahead of them. They drew in Europe this week too and it looks like they’re having a bit of a wobble. Nothing to get too excited about though as they aren’t playing that badly. They’re still very good and a big threat to us in the title race, but any time they drop points is a definite bonus.

We lost at West Ham too so we know that can happen. They were a little unlucky to lose as they shaded what was a pretty even game. Thiago Silva headed them in front as West Ham were given a taste of their own medicine and conceded from a corner. Silva then cleared off his own line from Coufal. Still brilliant even at his age. He’s like the Ronaldo of defenders, only without the rapeyness.

The Hammers drew level from the spot through Lanzini after Mendy had a moment of madness. He wasn’t helped by Jorginho who gave him a hospital ball, but the keeper should have just blasted it away first time. Instead he tried a drag back in his own box, was robbed by Bowen and then he brought him down as he tried to make amends.

Mount restored Chelsea’s lead with a first time side foot volley that caught Fabianski flat footed at the near post. I had the radio on in the car and they were creaming themselves over that goal so I was keen to see it for myself. When I did it was a disappointment. It was decent like, but not worthy of the build up Talksport gave it.

Bowen made it 2-2 with a low shot from 18 yards and almost scored again soon after but just couldn’t stretch far enough to convert Antonio’s cross with the goal gaping. Chelsea had bossed the first half but the game was much more open after the break and the Hammers won it with a complete fluke three minutes from time.

Masuaku was definitely trying to cross that ball but he mis-hit it and it flew in at the near post. Bad goalkeeping again. People talked him up way too much a few weeks ago and some were labelling him the best in the world. He’s good but slow the fuck down with the hyperbole. You have to do it over a period of a few years otherwise it could just be a purple patch. Being better than Arizeb… Areza… Kepa is nothing to write home about. I do think Mendy is good but he has mad moments in him.

Regarding Konsa’s second goal and a possible offside, I don’t think it matters whether that Villa player behind Schneichel is behind the goalline or not as long as he is considered not to be«interfering with play».

And I’m pretty sure that «one hand on the ball is enough»-rule has been around for ages.
