I honestly wondered this when the links first appeared. Then I thought it was an Abu Dhabi ego signing. Then, when he went to Utd I wondered if Guardiola had told him his plan was for Ronaldo to be a last 10 mins player when a goal was needed. Basically a bit part player when needed. And of course, Ronaldo would have none of that and Utd were desperate for relevance and brought him back. And now he’s shite. And it’s lovely.

There is no "to be fair" - they completely changed the team to accommodate him, corroded Fernandes' game and made the whole team more porous as a result. He has 5 goals in his past 18 league starts to show for it. A little flurry to begin with for the 37 year old was to be expected - its now February and he's falling apart at the seams.

C. Ronaldo is the ultimate example to how misleading stats can be in football. For those going through the record books 50 years from now he might seem to be on the level of someone like Messi, when his contribution to team play resembles Gerd Muller more (taking nothing away from how great goalscorer he was in his era). 

 

How many goals has his team scored? That's the only stat that matters. Throughout his career his teams have set up to feed him with goals, now that he no longer has the physicality to get on the end of the through balls or crosses, people will start to see how huge his technical flaws really are.
