Defending

Trent can’t defend and Henderson’s even worse and he’s meant to cover the space he leaves behind him.

Never seen two players who can’t head a ball let alone win a tackle like these 2.

Minamino chasing that West Ham  player and winning the ball off him despite being half the size of him says it all.

The problem is further up the pitch for me, our players losing possession, caught out of position, midfielders having to move out of position to cover the wings, creates space through the middle. Gives the opposition a free run at our defence which continues to ply a high line despite it being ineffective when the midfielders aren't pressing in the middle.

It needs sorting very soon, because the season could slip away if this carries on.

Fixed that one for you mate. I'm pissed with the times i'm screaming when an unnecessary mistake is made.

Makes you wonder how we actually won what we have really?

We haven't defended well since we won the league, last season it's because we were without our CB virtually all season, what's the reason this season? We've always been open at the back the year we won the league Ali was amazing (so was Adrian at the start of the season) so when teams got at us he made a save and also VVD stopped our problems in the air at set pieces for some reason this season it's going the other way teams break and seam to score more often maybe VVD isn't fully fit still who knows but something needs to change 2014 proved you can't win a title if you concede goals regularly.

I think if you go through the squad TAA is probably one of the only guys you can say is at the same or a better level than two/three years ago. He is probably better defensively now, still not really good though.

Him and Salah - no one else really.

Midfield balance is all wrong. Fabinho is the only one that sticks the boot in. Keita, Thiago are always crocked, Milner is older than the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Chamberlain and Taki are shite, jury still out for me on Jones.

Midfield has always been by far our weakest area. Defence top drawer, goalie world class, strikers the best in the world, midfield is average by comparisons, as is our bench.

You really notice it against City I always find. Midfield is their strongest area and our weakest, we always get run ragged by them in there.

Fines should have been issued for that second goal, staggeringly bad defending from the midfield to the keeper.

Had plenty of warning too, Virgil spent most of the previous 10 minutes kicking off at the midfield for being so sloppy.

We have the third-best defensive record in the Premier League and we have just lost our first game in 26 in all competitions.

Obviously, we could have done better on some of the goals we've conceded, but let's have a bit of perspective.

This is really the key. Just need to find a little greater consistency at the back.

Read a thing that said in only four seasons out of the last 20 have the top four teams in goal differential not been in the top 4.

One was Moyes with Everton who finished fourth with a negative differential.

Defensively he was better previously.  Now he spends half his time in Midfield leaving his side wide open which is exploited near every game.

The less said about Robertson and his constant inclusion the better. Shit both ends of the pitch.

Trent is definitely playing a lot further forward this season. It's like playing without a full back, but strangely we still seem to be light in the middle.

Reckon Robbo would struggle to get a game for Hull at the minute.

I doubt Queens Park would have him back the moment.

Wijnaldum was just about ever-present in every midfield combination we had during the last brilliant few seasons. We’re far too easy to play through. He’s been a huge loss.

This, big mistake letting his midfield quality go. We are very easy to counter now. Giving the ball away far to often when we are attacking. Yesterday sums up the season so far.

Pretty sure Wijnaldum was playing last year when we were shit and teams were walking through us  He was never injured (his plus point) so he must have been.

In fairness, he was playing in front of a series of patched-up defences over that period.

He wasn't always spectacular, but he was used more than any other player in any position by Klopp. Surely that highlights his importance?

To varying degrees, Keita, Thiago, Fabinho and Henderson have a tendency to miss a lot of games through injury, which exacerbates his loss.

Anyway, he seems to be becoming a bit of a battleground on here so not expecting consensus on this one!

Look at these 2 pictures of our defending for the 1st and 3rd goals.

For the first goal, they have Ogbonna, Antonio and a 3rd player in the air in our 6 yard box. Virgil's off his man, Fabinho is rooted and short arse Jota is nearest to the scorer, Ogbonna.

For the 3rd, Zouma is completely un-fucking-marked. All our players are miles away from Zouma, the scorer, Rice in the 6 yard box and another west ham player, Antonio(?), again.

A real piss poor attempt at defending by the team.
