Bad day at the office. Too many players having an off day. Slow and ponderous play. And we let them get in front and gave them something to defend.

 

Use the international break to clear our heads and go again. Albeit I don’t think we’re quite at the level of City or Chelsea. We could do with some reinforcement in January, but I suspect it won’t come.

Very, very poor start to the season given the favourable run of fixtures - if we can cling to top four from here, it has to be considered a relative success. Spending is required in January, that’s for sure.

As said, this was very much coming. We're conceding 2 goals most games, we don't control matches, we're easy to counter. We've been great this season at half of what you need to be great at, creating chances, and bad at the other half.

 

Alisson obviously not great today but it's irrelevant almost.

Me either based on league position, ever hopeful.  And I'm sure West Ham will take points off the teams around us, but I can't honestly see us finishing above 4th with this midfield.

Average performance that, and gutted to loose. 
 

But not the end of the world really. We faced a rich mans Burnley, who got extremely lucky with the start of the game, and had the officials on their side all game. Constant holding and wrestling, time wasting from the fourth minute, parking the bus and waiting to hit us on the counter.

 

That said, we’re a bit off form it seems We didnt play well, and the midfield is a worry with only Fabinho having any sort of presence in there.

Alisson is just sometimes startlingly naive. If an opponent backs into you and gets away with it, fine - the next time you either go straight through him or get your defenders to deal with him or if you're cute enough you get him booked. Alisson just kept looking at him before corners with almost terror in his eyes. To his credit he usually learns from his mistakes but no senior keeper should have to learn something like that.

League was never on. The midfield is fucked. We've got 2 midfielders suitable for the way we play at the club (1 of those being Henderson who is rapidly heading over the hill) - it is not enough.

Alisson a bit dodgy. The set piece defending was woefully inept. Not enough ideas up top to break through West Ham's deep defence. Mané's worst game for us for a while. Robertson seemed reluctant (or unable) to take on his opposition full back as the game progressed and opted for these play it back or inside option far too often. 

 

But, all that said, it's the first defeat of the season. Following on from a sloppy draw too. Hopefully it'll be a kick up the arse and we'll push on from here. 

 

Oh, the Fornals goal is infuriating too. Somebody has simply got to be a snide fucker and take a card and stop the counter while it's progressing, preferably when the ball was still up by the half-way line. Sloppy hold up play from Mané in the build up to that goal too.

Not even sure its so much that we defend the situations we have to badly....more a case of the situations we end up having to defend are so critical and hard because we are too fucking open....

 

We lose ball and we are far too often are facing 2 or 3 bearing down onto outnumbered defenders trying to catch up.

 

We need to look at being less easy to counter and not leaving so much space.

 

Citeh dominate games, have similar possession stats to us, but they play with a bit more control and don't get countered in same way we do, where it is nearly always a critical situation when we lose ball/miss place a pass in midfield.

 

We are too open.
