Man City (H) - Sun 3rd Oct 2021 (4:30pm)

The problem for us in the first half was that we were outnumbered in midfield. Both BGJ and Robbo were playing as orthodox full backs, and this was why City were able to close our midfielders down quickly and cut off any passing angles, especially going forward. It was an effective tactical play because it rendered our midfield ineffective, our attack impotent and freed them to get runners on us. They were targetting Milner and got a lot of joy.

It looked as though Klopp spotted the problem and, rather than change personnel, he re-jigged the set-up by pushing Milner and Robbo slightly higher. We weren't looking so outnumbered and suddenly Sadio and especially Mo were finding space.

Stunning goal from Mo. Shades of Spurs in 2017/18, and like that one, we didn't see out the win.

Fab could have done it but City tend to pull out a last ditch block every time they play us, so it wasn't especially unusual.

Some of the bleating on these match threads is shameful. All some people want to do is throw blame around every time something goes against us in a match. If a pass doesn't land? Shite. If an opponent has a yard of space and does something productive, our player should have been touch-tight. If our player is tougch-tight and still gets turned, he's a soft cunt who wants bombing out of the club. If a player shoots and doesn't score, he's shite. If he shoots instead of passing, he's a greedy cunt. And that's before you get to those who do the equivalent of the Mancs' green and gold if we fail to win a match.

A bit harsh as, even if it was the easiest appointment ever, they got us Klopp and deserve credit for that.  But they've certainly killed our momentum.

If you accept that the players that we had in midfield and full back shouldn’t be in a top team I could accept your point.  When we’ve got Thiago out we can’t control the midfield in games against decent teams.

Better 2nd half but it was a low bar.

I think we've done well to come.out that with a draw despite leading twice.

Thank fuck for Mo, his involvement in our goals was sensational but some of the other individual performances were absolutely shocking.

The midfield got the runaround all game especially Henderson from Silva and Fabinhos attempted tackle for the first City goal was pathetic and the less said about Firminos cameo the better.

This team needs new blood and this make do and mend at right back has to stop. Buy a specialist for the position and let him fight for his place.

Ridiculous that we still have to play a 37 year old midfielder at right back when Trent is injured. Usually playing against a fast player almost half his age.

We were outnumbered both in midfield and at full back.  It was a very poor performance from our midfield in particular.  There’s no getting away from that.  Jota  came very deep on occasion to help out, but really they were MIA

Or, we have played two of our biggest rivals at home and only managed to draw both times.

Yeah my point is we are not out of the title race which is what I was responding to.

I don't mind the City and Chelsea draws its the Brentford one that eats at me.

And people praise players if they are doing well. "That was good from Robbo" ect. Its how football forums work.

Its good to see that you have transcended the system though and can look down on everybody. Mostly, I think, by not posting much during the match.

If you were posting during the second half of the first half, for example, what exactly would you be posting?

Brentford are playing out of their skin.  Today again.  It was a tough time to play them.

We are going to rely on "outscoring" the opposition more than we have in '19 and '20.

That much seems true, and it will make the League very tough to win.

Good thing is, Mo and Mane already have 10 between them.

Thanks for telling me how football forums work. Having been on this one for over a decade, I never realised. You want to start the match threads, and I'll post during them instead? Looking down on everybody. Get to fuck!

The flip flop on Jones is hilarious. He's brilliant or he's useless, according to the weather. Almost like he's 20 and not a world class talent. He shouldn't have played here, though. 4th straight game in a short amount of time and can't hack it against Silva and De Bruyne, as couldn't most players.

This game tells us many things, doesn’t it ?

1- we will compete for the league : we were outplayed, then played better, we could have won, we could have lost, game on.

2- the squad looks thin with a couple of injuries.

3- Klopp does not trust a few players for big games.

4- the 2019-20 was a freak, we achieved something unique until that Wattford game. We won’t win so many games any more.
