On the one hand spunking £25m on Chris Wood calls into question Howe’s attempt to downplay Newcastle’s spending power, but on the other it’s fairly consistent with the calibre of player he loved throwing money at whilst manager of Bournemouth.

Eddie is the type of guy that buys stocks from Jordan Belfort.

Chris Wood was overlooked the last time he was available, because there were some decent Bosmans about.

Apparently you couldn't see the Wood for the frees.

I'll get my coat.

Rumours about a Newcastle sponsorship deal with Viagra have been scotched now that they've been able to get Wood.

Milner will be gone next season. I dont think Henderson and Firmino should be first team regulars but more used as squad rotation. Thiago is clearly excellent but so in and out the same would have to apply to him. Keita, Ox, Minamini, Origi need to be traded. Gomez I'm not sure if I see a path back into the side I'd be loathe to sell him. Manes replacement needs to be on the agenda for the near future. I like Bowen but as Salahs replacement its like downgrading your porsche to a fiat 500. We cant cling on to nostalgia though the side needs to evolve and in my opinion should of evolved more than it has, so now it feels like there needs to be more of a revolution than we should of ever needed. We are still a great side but I do think we are walking a tightrope and we're beginning to teeter.

Not buying players because you don't want to block the path of someone is only really relevant to me if that young player is genuinely a standout star and its self evident they'll make the side and at the top level that's rare. Weve been lucky with Trent  I don't see anything special from Jones that says his path should be cleared he needs to state his case and if he has it then brilliant but there's no way I wouldn't be looking to buy midfielders this summer. We need two straight in first teamers! the current midfield fabino aside to see more of the bench and those who currently see more of the bench sit on someone else's.

Makes it sound like a huge over haul but in my dream scenario it's the deadwood gone, two midfielders and a forward in.

Solanke has got 20 G/A's in 25 appearances this season so far and 23 G/A's in 42 appearances last season.

But that's the championship. He's found his level.

I've noticed the annual Liverpool plan to spend big in the summer media leaks have started right about on time.

Remember that summer where we were spending 200m?

I'd like us to go for De Jong at Barca (the midfielder). Barca apparently willing to let him go for around £30M. He's got bags of potential, I think he'd be a great signing.

That would be spectacularly bad business for Barcelona so it seems quite likely.

Just googled and it says Chelsea have bid about £30m/£35m. If he was available for anything less than £50m it would be a good signing.

The FSG treasure trive always looks like the Casino vault in Oceans 11 after Terry Benedict realised they've been robbed.

Increasingly, they remind me of my long estranged, tight-arse dad, who would plead poverty when it came to his kids but always had enough knocking about for a new car, overseas holiday or mid-life crisis motorbike.
