To steal a bit from @VladimirIlyich. Definitely the greatest goal hanger in the history of football.

Here’s a few photos to celebrate the life of the one and only Gerd Muller.

Sensational striker and one of my draft picks for best striker outside our own club. I modelled myself on him as a kid and was a prize goalhanger who took the glory on the school playground.

Has there even been a more deadly striker ?

He might have not done much else on the pitch but as they say sticking the ball in the net is the hardest thing to do

A great player,  „short fat Gerd“ was his other nickname. He played sweeper in frontof the back 4 for Bayern when they got a 0-0 at Anfield back in the day. I was in the paddock and he never crossed the halfway line; Alun Evans scored the German goal of the season in the second leg which we lost 3-1.

A minutes applause for Das Bomber at the beginning of the German Super Cup.

This week a genuine football legend left us.

I always feel particularly sad when the ‘greats’ pass on. These are the players I used to read about in my football books, sometimes under the bedclothes with a torch when I was supposed to be sleeping.
