I do like this website. I’ve kind of settled on it now although I did go on RAWK many years ago before realising it was a bit weird. But every close season it’s the same predictions of abject misery and tales of woe for the season ahead.

There was one season a couple of years ago were we didn’t buy a left back. This year not replacing Gini is the go to issue for the misery arses. I actually do get swept up in it myself. I’m not immune to it. But if you can’t go into a new season with some misplaced optimism then what’s the point? So hats off to anyone for remaining upbeat before a ball is kicked! I am going to stick my neck out and say we could win the league again. If we are unlucky with injuries again we are fucked obviously due to lack of squad depth. But until that happens I’m not ruling us out of winning number 20 just yet.

I think we'll win the league, and go deep in the CL.

Transfers are generally focused on far too much, but it's particularly mind-boggling to see supporters of a historically great team go nuts because it's 2nd/3rd best midfielder hasn't been replaced.

Our front 3 looks rejuvenated after finally having some time off this summer. We have 4 of the 6 best CBs in the league. We have tve best keeper and the best full backs already. We tried last year to upgrade our midfield with a true midfield maestro.

I just don't see any reason to curb my optimism now that we've gotten even more pace at the back. We can again revert to our high defensive line and sufgocating press, which all of our main 3 attackers thrive on. Add to that mavericks like Jota, Jones and Elliott and I'm buzzing for the season!

African Cup of Nations not enough to dampen your enthusiasm?

I haven't seen any of the pre season stuff but I'd expect our last two friendlies have been pretty close to how we'll start the season, tempo wise at least. How have we looked?

Very good.  Created enough chances to score a dozen but we've been a bit wasteful. Defence a bit unsettled.

Ox has the look of a man who realises this is it for him, get in the team now or spend the rest of his career moving between West Ham, Newcastle and Palace.

Konate is fucking unit.

The Greek looks like ready too. The commentary mentioned yesterday how difficult last year must have been for him. It must have been horrendous, new country, no game time, no socialising. The same basically applies to Taki bar a month or so. Playing football well when the rest of your life is shit can't be easy.

Kelleher looks to be 2nd choice, hopefully not needed but if he is at least he won't be an instant mood killer like Adrian.

Virgil and Joe.

Finally the crowd. Its worth a minimum of 10 points on last year even if we're shit.

Cant see it myself.

Yeah crowds back, big influence and big bonus and should address the weirdness we saw last season with certain teams benefiting more than others.

On paper we have a first 11-13 that can match anybody in the league even City.

But...

The rotation options at the disposal of City and Chelsea is what will keep them at the top. We can't really afford to rotate and they can, which means fresher players for them and probably less injuries.

Its good to see Taki and keita and Ox step it up a bit in pre season but they have to do it in the league and I'm still not convinced that they can/will or get injured in the process.

Would be happier for replacements for Shaq and Origi to bolster us a bit.
