Maradonna for me.

Come very close to winning 2 consecutive world cups and that's not even taking into account what he did domestically.

Messi and Ronaldo are without a doubt in the conversation  but maradonna is top of the tree.

Phenomenal player.

I think we will find out in the best XI tournament when it comes to number 10's/AM

Maradonna also had that rare talent of making players around him better.

I don't think messi and Ronaldo do that.

Yeah agreed there. Barca's peak was when you had him, Xavi and Iniesta playing piggy in the middle with every side on the planet. On his own though he is still absolutely phenomenal, same for C Ronaldo.

2 years might have been a harder sell to the support for Bartomeu but certainly last year, he had far to much influence and was paid far too much despite his talent.

It was by no means Barcelona's only issue but I'd imagine there's some relief on the part of the new board now he's gone, especially with them able to direct the anger at FFP/Previous ownership/ La Liga rules.

It's the second time Joan Laporta has had to come in and save the club from massive debts, it'll be interesting to see how they do this time without the influence, contacts and iffy business practices of Sandro Rosell.

The state some if the Spanish clubs get into seems to get ignored by those shouting for fan ownership. It leads to presidents, board members willing to push the boat to keep themselves in charge come election time imho.

The Spanish membership model is just an exercise in populism, it's rarely about who's best for the club and is more often 'who's promising us the most'.

It's why the manifesto's are usually headlined by promises to sign manger x and player x, y and z, it's not completely risk free for the incoming board because I think they have to deposit the equivalent of 15% of the clubs budget upon winning but it's usually backed by big business and the political power the winner gets from his tenure will out weigh any money they personally put in.

The Bundesliga's current 50+1 model was an attempt to fix fan ownership rather than private investment. Pre-1998 most Bundesliga clubs were not for profit organisations run by members organisations and most clubs were massively in debt and on the verge of going out of business.

The greedy bastard is one of the reasons why Barcelona are in the shit financially. He could easily play for nothing and live off his endorsements until he retires. As soon as he doesn't get what he wants he is leaving.

Yet all the fans are outside the ground crying like someone has died.

1/Take Messi’s salary out and Barcelona's wage bill is still 95% of their income. So yes, Messi is one of the reasons why Barcelona are in the shit - much as ‘Lee Jones never lived up to his potential ’ is one of the reasons why Evans never won the league with us.

2/He offered to take a massive reduction in salary, to earn far less than he’s reckoned to be on at PSG. He is demonstrably prepared to play for less at Barcelona than he can command elsewhere.
3/Why should he play for nothing? Any club he plays for will make a fortune, from his commercial appeal to winning trophies. It’s just serf porn, this idea that footballers should know their place and stop earning money once they reach a certain level of wealth. You know what grinds my gears? Sports washing owners such as City’s, parasitic owners like the Glazers, rocket touts, people like Mourinho who shamelessly forces other people out of their jobs (from referees to physiotherapists) if it gives him an edge, and wankers in government who can’t even bring themselves to condemn racists who bop players when they take the knee. But sure, if you want to concentrate your anger at ‘World’s best player is paid the going rate and performs brilliantly for nearly 20 years’ then that’s cool too.

I think the massive pay cut he was willing to take at Barca was more akin to an NFL deal where money was back loaded in exchange for being 'team friendly' in the first couple of years so ended up not being much of a pay cut at all.

Although it was being mooted as a 5 year deal it was really a two year deal which is why it didn't pass the FFP or La Liga rules that led to him leaving.

Maradona for me. He did it all when there was no sports science, the pitches were like swamps and players would kick the shit out of him. He was also off his cake most of the time but still managed to turn it on.

My favourite none Liverpool player ever. Ronaldo and Messi are phenomenal players but not in the same league as Diego for me.

Ronaldo and Messi have always been at top teams where as Maradona went to a poor Napoli side and single handed turned them into Champions.

Plus his hand of god to deny Ingerland makes him a legend.

I'm with you on this.

But there's something to be said about 672 goals in 778 appearances for Messi. Those numbers are fairytale. Especially considering they're all the highest level.

305 assists, too. You can debate raw talent 'til the cows come home, but when it comes to consistent attacking output, Messi and Ronaldo are unparalleled. To score or assist at a rate of over a goal a game, for 15 seasons in a row, is fucking incredible.

Imagine Messi on cocain every game, he would score about 6 goals each game instead of only 2

And Messi has been hacked down plenty of times he has just been extremely lucky and just does not get injured allot. Remember this one tima flying tackle went into his ankles, it looked like his leg was snapped over, the fucker was playing again 2-3 weeks later. Any of our players would be out for a year.

How is Neymar taking the news that Messi is talking to PSG. Didn’t he leave Barca to get out of Messi’s shadow and be the top dog?

He's been desperate to go back to Barca from practically the minute he landed in Paris.

Did Diego type this himself?
