So it looks as though Messi might be being used as a (willing?) pawn in a power play between Real Madrid/Barcelona and La Liga over how they can run their respective finances.

 

La Liga look as though they are trying to keep some form of FFP and regulation to, presumably, make things more equal between the clubs in a financial sense.

 

Real/Barca want to be able to spend what they want, when they want and on who they want to maintain their grip over the whole of La Liga.

 

The threat from Barca is that Messi could be off if La Liga win, taking arguably the biggest draw in the league away and no doubt causing consternation to the leagues sponsors and partners. And Barcelona’s too of course.

 

Could this also play out here if City/United/Chelsea find the FA Premier League telling them they can’t spend as they wish? 
 

La Liga will drop their kecks over this won’t they.

It won't happen here because the league doesn't revolve around two clubs.

 

City aren't relevant enough to make any threats. Nobody gives a shit about them. United won't do that because of the Glazers. Chelsea have been 'legit' (or close to it) for a long time.

 

If City and Chelsea both disappeared overnight the PL would be largely unaffected anyway because it's us, United and Arsenal who draw the most viewers in around the world anyway.

It's truly mind boggling how bad their transfer policy is. No planning, no idea whether these players will fit into their system, and the transfer fees are incredible. Demebele alone cost more than Mane, Salah and Firmino combined!

The fees yea, but the wages are insane - Griezmann reportedly on 700k a week - so he alone makes more than Salah, Firmino and Mane combined.

I think Haaland is the only realistic superstar we could get and afford but it would still take a wedge and Klopps charisma. We just dont have the cajones to do a big deal like that unless we are selling a big player to lubricate fsg wallets and stop them from having palpitations. I dont think we'd get the giant money for any of our front 3 now. I think the club is looking at deals like we can always turn a 30 million player into a 100 million player. 

 

Jude Bellingham would be a good move too. I dont know ambition beyond keeping our current players.

We won't sign Haaland as we have no rapport with Raiola. Mbappe is the only one that's somewhat possible because it's well known that we've kept in touch with his entourage and we have some sort of relationship there.

Mbappe is on around 400 grand a week isn't he. If they want to leave it until next year where he might be free and pay the player himself a lump sum as an option maybe but a year is a long time and we may not seem such an attractive idea if we struggle against the sides who've made a genuine effort to improve their options. 

 

It's also just as real a scenario our stability, plus klopp means we do better than the other sides. A lot of luck with injuries  a long pre season and players champing at the bit, were more than capable.

I don't think either of them are realistic options now. If we wanted Bellingham, we needed to get him from Birmingham, and we were never going to pay the £25 million plus add ons that Dortmund offered.
