Messi leaving on a free

There are many things to say here, but surely the most obvious is what a complete pig’s ear Barcelona have made of this. He wanted to leave a year ago, which would have been embarrassing but A/Might have saved them a lot of money, and B/Hardly had a great impact on the pitch seeing as last season was a wash.
He’ll probably end up at City now, to nobody’s delight - not even his own. It’s not clear if Barcelona will manage to sign those new players (eg Aguero) who are currently in limbo. Their underlying financial problems still aren’t close to being solved. And everybody starts the season under a cloud.
A complete shambles.

Messi is like the football version of Amazon. Lessons absolutely must be learned and no single player should be allowed to earn such a vast amount ever again.

His wages are so vast that he's effectively priced himself out of playing the sport he supposedly loves. Messi could play for nothing if he wanted to but quite clearly he values the money above all else. Shame on him.

FFP needs to be enforced and a strict salary cap imposed before top flight football eats itself.

I still think he will stay. There is only City, PSG and United who could afford his wages. Probably Chelsea too but they are almost trying to whitewash their plastic past with a dodgy as fuck loan programme.

The way Barcelona have announced it is that it's mainly La Ligas fault, which suggests that they are trying to force La Liga to change the rules to accommodate him.

Why are people having a go at Messi? He agreed to reduce his salary by HALF even when PSG or City will pay him what he wants. Barca are so deep in the financial shitter that they can't even afford to pay him half of what he was on. Hardly Messi's fault that Barca are flat broke, run by amateurs who buy garbage players and have a manager not even good enough for the BS. This shit show is all on Barca.

I think it's on both Barca and Messi. Incompetent and irresponsible club and a greedy, short-sighted player.

According to a leaked report made by Spanish publication El Mundo, Messi's four-year contract with Barcelona is worth €555 million (£491m/$674m)

Even this new 'cheap' deal was 65ml a year

His wages caused the inflation to the rest

Still think he stays. Barca want La Liga to loosen the reins, and given how they scrabbled to try stopping Neymar leaving Spain I'd expect them to cave. He's too valuable to the league.

Exactly how I see it. Barcelona are trying to force La Liga to give them special dispensation to be in breach of their sustainability rules, and the threat is that the league’s most marketable player will walk away otherwise.

I guess it depends on how you define "greedy". He was willing to reduce his pay by 50% even when he could get more at another club. Personally I can't blame him for leaving, Barca are in an absolute mess and will win nothing over the next few years.
