Good news, this. I was hoping he'd get a Championship-level (at least) loan. After being prematurely thrown in at the deep end last year, he's now got a chance to start building towards a longer-term Liverpool career.

(Yes, surprised that they've done business with us.)

How come?

I've been led to believe that they've declined to do loan business with us on multiple occasions over the course of this century, when we've looked to loan players to London-area clubs at their level, that's all.

Small midweek update.

Leighton Clarkson (Blackburn Rovers) - Another start for Leighton after missing out on the fixture against Luton. Replaced early in the second half, 54th minute, with the score still 0-0. Rovers would go on to win 2-0 courtesy of 2 goals in 4 minutes just after the hour mark.

Ben Davies (Sheffield United) - Not in the match squad due to injury for the 2-2 home draw against Preston.

Sepp van den Berg (Preston) - Played another full 90 at right wing-back as Preston picked up a good point at Bramall Lane.

Paul Glatzel (Tranmere Rovers) - After little football in recent times, Glatzel got the full 90 against a Leeds U21 side in the EFL Trophy fixture at Prenton Park. The home side enjoyed a comfortable 4-1 win on the night.

Time to catch up before this weekend's fixtures begin...

Vitezslav Jaros (St. Pat's) - Played 90 minutes in 2 fixtures since my last update. Firstly, he kept a clean sheet against Wexford in a 3-0 home win in the FAI Cup on the 17th. He then played the full 90 last night as St. Pat's went down 1-0 to title rivals Shamrock Rovers, with the goal coming in the second minute of added time.

Jakub Ojrzynski (Caernarfon Town) - Jakub has played the full 90 in 2 of the 3 games that Caernarfon have played since my last update - the game he did not feature in was a 5-0 thumping by Newtown in the League Cup. The 2 games he did play in resulted in home wins against Cardiff Metropolitan (2-0) in the league and Prestatyn (3-0) in the Welsh Cup, with the big Pole keeping clean sheets in both games.

Sepp van den Berg (Preston) - 2 games for the "Ginger Maldini" since the last update. Full 90 against West Brom in a 1-1 draw in the league, and then came off the bench in 31st minute during the 4-1 home win against Cheltenham in the League Cup. Was booked against the Baggies.

Ben Davies (Sheffield United) - Just 1 appearance for Ben. Started the 3-1 League win at Hull before being replaced in the 85th minute. Was not selected for the matchday squad in the League Cup defeat to Southampton.

Rhys Williams (Swansea City) - 2 starts for young Rhys in Swansea's last 2 fixtures. Started the 3-3 draw at Luton, but was replaced at halftime after suffering racial abuse from the home support. The lad then played the full 90 in the 2-0 League Cup defeat at Brighton, picking up a yellow card during the game too.

Adam Lewis (Livingston) - Consecutive starts against the Old Firm for Adam. Played the full 90 in Livi's fantastic 1-0 win against Celtic in the SPFL - was booked in the first half of this game. He then followed that up with a start against Rangers in the 2-0 League Cup defeat during the week. He was replaced on the stroke of half-time, presumably due to injury.

Anderson Arroyo (CD Mirandes) - Just the 1 game for Mirandes, a 2-1 come from behind win at Tenerife in which our young Colombian featured for the full 90. FlashScore interestingly had him lined up at centre half. One for me to keep an eye on.

Leighton Clarkson (Blackburn) - Just the 1 substitute appearance for Leighton as he came off the bench in the 67th minute during a 0-0 draw at Oakwell against Barnsley.

Jake Cain (Newport County) - Didn't appear in either matchday squad as Newport beat Walsall 2-1 at home (18/09), and then lost 2-1 away at Barrow yesterday evening.

Ben Woodburn (Hearts) - Just 1 fixture for Hearts, a 2-2 draw at Ross County in the League on the 18th. Ben started this game and was replaced in the 65th minute. Picked up a booking late in the first half.

Sheyi Ojo (Millwall) - Missed Millwall's last 2 games due to illness.

Paul Glatzel (Tranmere Rovers) - An unused sub in last weekend's 2-0 home win against Salford.

Luis Longstaff (Queen's Park) - Just 1 game and 1 appearance for Luis, coming off the bench in the 80th minute as Queen's managed a 2-2 draw at Clyde to maintain their unbeaten start to their League One campaign.

Sepp van den Berg (Preston) - Full 90 for Sepp as Preston picked up a point with a 0-0 draw at Birmingham.

Ben Davies (Sheffield United) - Consecutive starts in the League for Ben. Played the full 90 in a 1-0 win against troubled Derby.

Rhys Williams (Swansea City) - Not in the matchday squad as Swansea beat Huddersfield 1-0 at the Liberty Stadium.

Adam Lewis (Livingston) - Started the 3-0 defeat at Hearts. Replaced at halftime.

Anderson Arroyo (CD Mirandes) - Another start at centre-half for Anderson, according to FlashScore anyway. Played the full 90 as Mirandes fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Leganes.

Leighton Clarkson (Blackburn) - An unused sub as Blackburn thrashed Cardiff 5-1 at Ewood Park.

Ben Woodburn (Hearts) - A first full 90 for Ben as Hearts thumped Livingston 3-0.

Sheyi Ojo (Millwall) - Started Millwall's 1-1 draw at Forest. Credited with the assist for Millwall's goal.

Paul Glatzel (Tranmere Rovers) - An unused sub as Tranmere picked up a point at Forest Green.

Luis Longstaff (Queen's Park) - Started on the bench before being introduced in the 74th minute as Queen's Park gained all 3 points at home against Peterhead.

I was never impressed with Van Den Berg when I saw him but its good that he is becoming a fan favourite. The "Ginger Maldini"!

Have I got it wrong? Does he have the makings of a Varsity athlete?

I like to be positive about our young players whenever possible, but I can’t see where he fits in here.

I hope the club is keeping an eye on TR's use/ non use of Glatzel
