Did you see the French one, with Alain Delon? I think it was the first version. She seems to be much more highly rated in Europe than in the US.

Yes, Wenders, with Bruno Ganz, a wonderful actor who later unfortunately became an Internet meme. I think it combines two Ripley novels, liked that one too.

 

Didn't see the Malkovich film.
