How hard is it to learn? I fancy myself playing a bit of sax.

I've heard it's very hard to learn, that was just from on Sax player I was in a band with though.

I'd love to be able to play it too, an amazing instrument in the right hands.

Electric guitar. Badly.

It is not the easiest instrument to comprehend chords/theory etc - I picked it up after already playing a couple other instruments. Techniquewise it is also not quite as easy as pressing a key down and getting a sound but it is hella easier than something like violin.

Not cheap though pal - without a good mouthpiece you might as well try to play the firehose.

A decent alto would be the place to start (Yamaha) - still a functioning horn alone will run you 300-400 and an intermediate/semi pro mouthpiece close to 100.

Same with reeds, do not go cheap - it is the entire sound of the instrument.

Have a bit of the Prez. Lester Young..

Fairly interesting fact they should but don't teach in University. The term 'bread' for money was derived by Lester Young himself. They didn't call him the Prez for nothing.

Gerry mulligan!

Lurtz you should take up the baritone - it would cost you the same as a car but it is a smaller talent pool.
