Ibrahima Konaté

The lad from Atalanta and then Calvert Lewin bashed him like he had lost his core strength. Something very weird about both those games. I said a couple of months back that I thought Klopp now sees him as a Thursday footballer, that looks to have played out.

Yeah it was really not a good sign how he got absolutely dominated by Scamacca. The same Scamacca who looked like a competition winner at West Ham. Konaté wouldn’t be the first player to lose a bit of physicality after a string of injuries.

He's had his ups and downs throughout his time here, when he's good - he's really good and when he's bad, boy can he be bad.

We surely knew the risk involved surrounding his injury record before we signed him, it's hardly a surprise he's had multiple injuries over the last 3 years.

Don't see anyone coming in with big money for him, he's simply too unreliable.

Not sure the DCL game is a good focal point as it is tricky for any central defender when their opponent is allowed to manhandle you without sanction but you give away a dangerous free kick whenever you breathe on them. Scamacca is a decent player, first choice for Italy despite his poor show at West Ham, and a hard match up when you have no discernible midfield in front of you.

( Not aimed at you, this, joe ) but it gets quite tiresome on here when somebody has 3 good games and they should get a new contract and we should build the team around them ,then they have 3 bad games and we want them sold or are looking for the contact details of the local hitman ).

Both games had long balls played into the centre forward and they bullied him like he was he a 14 year old kid. That has nothing to do with shape or refereeing, this was the kind of thing he was doing himself for the previous 7 months. I just found it weird that someone as dominant as he had been was now been treated like a rag doll. It didn't look right.

For the record I don't want him sold but we do need to freshen up and lads that can't be relied upon to stay fit should be first on our list. Jota probably falls into that category and I love the bones off him.

This is the Konate situation at the moment.

I was the one who brought it up, I have always preferred Matip.

So for me its a general point, nothing to do with his last few games.

I rated Matip too,but his injuries are even worse than Konate and he's about ten years older.

So he was back last night. But interestingly he slotted in on the left where VDB has been playing. I thought he was pretty woeful, but no issues as he's behind most people on the pitch and only been back a few days. I was more interested in the indication he's probably behind quansah for the right sided slot. This is a big season ahead for konate. Just 2 years left on his deal and looking like he might have changed from job share with matip to being behind quansah.

He was suoerb today, and good off the bench against Ipswich

When he is in it he really does give us a physically dominant defender and still more than quick enough to beat most attackers in a foot race

That was his best performance for a while, but they were absolutely toothless up front.  He was edgy in possession I thought. But hopefully he can stay fit and start putting in more performances like this than some we saw later last season.

I thought he was good in possession. Not looked at stats but seemed to play a few decent balls out down the right hand side that I liked to set us off.

It's not a knock on Klopp, well it probably is, but it never felt like players could really cement their places in the team. It was like they were filling in to give x a rest. Konate today put in a performance that said fuck you to Quansah, I'm taking my place back.

Agreed thought he was easily MOTM . Snuffed everything out end off . No mistakes did his job and have a sneaky feeling he getting VVD to up his already high level a wee bit as well.

He has been good but his defending for their goal last night was absolutely mental, what in the name of fuck was he thinking?

I suggest you watch again. Tsimikas goes on his holidays and loses a header which sends Pulisic free into most of the pitch behind him.

As he approaches the goal Konate is torn between trying to narrow the angle for Pulisic and cutting out the pass across the area to Morata unmarked in the middle. He's trying to do both but it left a bit too much of a gap for Pulisic to get a shot away.

No way you can put that on Konate.
