In fairness to Konate, he’s had the one big hip injury that was aggravated a couple of times. If the club are confident that isn’t likely to recur, I don’t think there’s anything especially worrying about his record.
 

I’m less concerned about him being available for the majority of next season than I am Van Dijk or Gomez, the former because you never quite know what you’re going to get after a serious cruciate injury and the latter because he really is an example of a young player who has fallen to several serious injuries since breaking through.

No, it's just funny because we've had mentions of Sakho and Mangala in this thread. I was just thinking about other big black guys we could mention that may or may not play like him and that we could compare him to because they're all big, French and black. Sylvain Distin, perhaps. Kurt Zouma, another one.

Let's be clear from the off, this lad is a brilliant centre back.  He's also passed a medical, which you'd think that they were very thorough with having been through the recent Keita nightmare, so there's good reason for optimism.  The bigger issue is Matip/Gomez.
