Do people here actually consider Predator a better film than the Shining? Several here need a good … talking to.

I can't take to The Shining or any other Kubrick films & it's not for the want of trying. Nicholson is superb in it but other than that, I find it quite empty.

Yes. It’s an absolute masterclass in building suspense and interspersing with action in just the right places, leading up to imo the greatest 1 v 1 showdown ever committed to screen. The combination of cinematography, effects, music and set pieces is flawless.

Sure the dialogue and acting are hammy as fuck, but to get hung up on that is kind of missing the point of the film.

All but Manhunter are genuinely iconic, which is the 80s version of "great".

Predator and Do the Right Thing, for me. Aliens and The Shining the other genuine classics in here. The others are all brilliant too. I think it's a great group. Would happily sit down to watch any of them, anytime.

Action snobs...

Anyway, Night of the Hunter lovers, think of Spike's as a second chance for old left hand, right hand.

By all accounts, the guy who wrote The Shining would be among their (our) number.
