I thought that was unfortunate rather than dirty. He was clearing the ball for me and his follow through from the clearance caught the lad badly. Ref didn't have an option really, but very unlucky.

It's a red. It doesn't have to be intentional to be a red. You can still get the ball and get a red if you've shown no consideration for the safety (or leg) of an opponent. 

 

He hasn't meant to "do him" and you sympathise with him in that regard but it's a clear red. All day.
