Nah, ET is the ultimate family film.

I'm maybe a bit nostalgic for it because it's the first film I can remember watching but it's pretty much perfection in terms of that genre in my opinion. I'm looking forward to watching it with my two boys.

It is. My second pick was Midnight Run but I should really have gone for the extra terrestrial.

Raiders of The Lost Ark

The Red Turtle

Watership Down

Close Encounters

Coco

The Wolf Walkers

Field of Dreams

Goonies

Gremlins

Stand By Me

Some of those are not family films. Stand by Me is a coming-of-age story. The Goonies is one of the best, if not the best, kid’s adventure films. However, it’s very much a children’s film. There is very little to interest adult members of the family. The Gremlins is a comedy horror and, as such, is unsuitable for younger children. Watership Down is, arguably, too dark for younger kids.

Just realised I have never seen The Princess Bride. I have seen lots of clips but never knew where they were from.

Whenever it has been mentioned recently, including reading the list today, I have incorrectly thought of The Princess Diaries, only the poster showed me I was wrong.

Close Encounters isn’t suitable for younger kids either. The abduction scene scared the shit out of me the first time I saw it.

Bollocks!. Name a better family film?

I loved it as a kid. It was of it's time though and it's hype from back then has carried it into being recognised as one of the greatest ever. But if we're honest it's simply a good film.

Goonies.

Back to the Future.

Willow

Mac and Me

etc

All very good family films too, for all ages and on a par with ET.
