Agree about Sadio, but something "football God like" tells me we'll see a Mane hat trick in one of the remaining games.

Relax about 4th place. Football God doesn't make a keeper score a header like that without meaning. Football God is only teasing us.

Thiago also seems to have taken on a leadership role over recent weeks. He's doing a lot of shouting, pointing and generally just seems to want to be at the hub of everything. He looks more settled now, especially since Fabinho moved in there with him.

Firmino was back to his terrible form again in this, giving the ball away with depressing and predictable regularity, and missing a couple of very presentable chances.

Jota back tonight will be helpful.

Out for the season.

Firmino is not in and out of form for the past season. I think that he is just ineffectual against a packed defence.

When teams leave space between the back 4/3,  and the midfield he can drop in and has room to operate.

When there is <5m between those 2 lines, he has nowhere to go and does not have the pace or physicality to influence the game.

fuck.  Is it too much to expect Firmino to have a positive impact on another game?

Regardless, I do expect us to score early but to give the fanbase the arse sweats for a significant proportion of the game.  Normally, I would take my blood pressure tablets first thing in the morning, but on match nights I take them 30 mins before kick off.

I'd expect him to make runs and give defenders something to think about, even if it's only running across the front line.  He's too static in the scenario you've described.  I used to think he'd be able to drop deep and spot movement, and hit the killer pass, but anyone who has watched him over the last few seasons must have come to the dreaded realisation that this happens so rarely, it can be put down to a fluke.

The latest seems to be that there is a slim chance Jota might be fit for Palace but I'm not holding my  breath. Another nervy one tonight I reckon.
