Little Lad Killed by Lightning.

There was a little lad 9 years of age struck by lightning and killed yesterday afternoon during footy practice in Blackpool.

It's really affected me, I have a 9 year old Grandson and they look very similar.

It turns out the lad, Jordan Banks was a keen Liverpool fan.

It's heartbreaking.

Rest easy kid, YNWA.

Just read about this.

Horiffic. The family must be absolutely distraught.

YNWA, kid. Just horrible. I don't know what anyone was thinking having a training session in a thunderstorm.

Yeah, that's the part to concentrate on!

Fuck me.

I don't think I was "concentrating on" anything. Nevertheless I'd hope we would like to avoid things like this happening again in future, which means adults not irresponsibly putting children in harm's way. I don't know why you have a problem with that.

Probably because you wrote it.

Righto. Well, if fairly uncontroversial posts are going to cause you such anguish simply because they were written by me, there's a pretty effective ignore list feature that will save you the energy.

When you consider the utter scrotes walking around, things like this are just utterly tragic and unbelievable.

I dont think they were having a training session in a thunderstorm either. It was just raining then a clap of thunder and lightning rather than staying outside with lightning all over the place.

Not a particularly dangerous thing to do being out in a thunderstorm no? Unless you're like walking around holding a Tesla coil.

It depends where you are. In a big open space like a playing field, the risk is dramatically increased. F**tb*ll*rs are killed quite often by lightning; I particularly recall Colombian international Hernan Gaviria (who I once signed on Championship Manager) and his team-mate being killed about 20 years ago.

So you're more likely to be struck by lightning in a big open space?

Yes, and also sheltering under trees. Buildings and vehicles are the best places to shelter.

We get conditioned to awful things happening all around us, desensitised even. This one knocked me sideways though. I have two boys, albeit a little older now, but I can only try to imagine the unimaginable pain his parents must be going through to lose their beautiful son in that way.

Maybe not in those words but reading the report my thoughts also went to the adults involved in running the session and the impact it will have on them and the scrutiny they’ll face as part of the investigations into what happened.

Absolute tragedy for everyone involved

Yep. They will feel guilty and as we’ve seen a certain ilk will choose to question them or lay some blame at their feet when they absolutely shouldn’t face that shit at all. Nobody in this event did anything wrong. It was the worst luck in the word and a poor family has lost a kid as a result. It’s absolutely gut wrenching. As has been said on here, I really hope there is an after-life and he’s a Zeus character, one of the gods.
