Found this the other day. Declassified photos taken by US military photographers.

I agree, it’s a fascinating period, both the post WW2 French colonial era to the unification of Vietnam, and the impact back in the US.

The Vietnam War series of ten one-hour episodes was some of the most compelling, educational, brilliant, horrifying, upsetting and deeply emotional TV I've ever had the privilege to watch. I'm sure you lot will know how to download it, but it's on Amazon Prime and well worthy of your money.

The filmmaker who did that series has also done a WW2 series and one about the American Civil War. They’re really good too.

This is from the film on Netflix about the ANZACs called Danger Close.

Haha. Just posted this and the Danger Close version on the Vietnam songs thread. Great minds and all that.

Known over here of course as the American War.Public holiday yesterday for Reunification Day.

Lots of unexploded ordnance keeps turning up, dedicated disposal squads in all the provinces. Salvaging them is also a profitable but risky business.I was at a gathering a little while ago sitting with some middle aged farmers.  Half a dozen of them. 11 arms and about 25  fingers between the lot of them.

Culinary joke.My friends have a defused mortar at their house. They use it as a pestle to grind rice and peanuts.

I visited My Lại (known here as Son My) recently. It's a breathtakingly beautiful area and the village is preserved as a monument to the victims. Most of the bodies were too decomposed for identification by the time they buried them so relatives of the victims pray at each of the over 100 graves. It would be a nice gesture if the Americans used their forensic teams to use DNA to identify all their victims. Murdering cunts.

The last photo is the Mother monument in what is currently my hometown, Tam Ky. Seven sons lost fighting the French and Americans

That’s quality. I think having seen the films about Vietnam as a kid it’s in our consciousness. Great photos. Must be weird that mix of French colonial, pre Communist and Communist Vietnam. I watched Chris Tarrant on Extreme Railway Journeys about Vietnam, too.
