Why would any fans want the shit show of a format.

With the commercialisation you have to accept a certain amount was inevitable and acceptable, but it feels like we are now on the precipice of something quite ugly, and once we go over it I don't think the game comes back

There was no fan demand for the LIV golf tour either - look how quickly that has fundamentally altered the sport. Any Super League will take the same direction.

Yeah, I don't really get the whole LIV thing at all. Well except obviously the golfers want more money and the Saudi's want to own sport. But from a fan perspective, whi gives a fuck?

It's like the shit show we've got coming next season (I think) with the CL. I don't even understand it.

Well you have been saying over and over all owners of football teams want is more money so that is your answer.

When all the best players in the world are playing, everyone will give a fuck. It will happen in golf this season and wouldn't take much longer to happen in football.

The PL will become like the PGA will be - a second tier.

Yeah, I don't dispute owners are greedy. In fact further up it's my point. The owners and administrators of clubs might well want more cash and more cash until they blow the whole thing up. But for me the club is not the owners, it's everyone, fans included. And there's no fan demand for any of this shit.

You think overseas fans want some random competition?

Overseas fans have no connection to the Premier League. None. The CL probably has more. In 5 years LIV (probably less even) will be the pre-eminent golf tour in the world. The best players guarantee that - in any sport. Right now the PL is living off the fat of a TV contract that both insiders and outsiders want to blow up. Eyeballs can be purchased.

Qatar pumped 200 bill into one tournament - they could literally buy the entire league for half that.

Not going to comment too much on the football here, but the best players in the golf world are committed to the PGA tour for the foreseeable, with the possible exception of Cam Smith.

The young players that are grinding out ranking points every week. On the Tour.

If you had a winner take all pay per view event with 10 players at least 3 would come from the LIV. Right now - and it is only a couple years in.

How do you reckon that?

I'll give you Cam Smith (as mentioned). Most of the other guys are way past it, and even stalwarts like DJ and Koepka lost momentum long before their transfer. DeChambeau is even worse off. The only other candidate for a top 10 spot would be Joaquin Niemann, and I don't think he's got a very good case either. Top 20 is something like this...

Rahm/Mcilroy

Scheffler

Schauffele

Smith

Cantlay

Morikawa

Homa

Zalatoris

Thomas

Finau

Fitzpatrick

Niemann

Burns

Tom Kim

Young (who might still defect to LIV I guess)

DJ

Im

Spieth/Ancer

So I'm guessing 3 in 20 would be more accurate. I think the divide will only get bigger in terms of quality (not because of OWGR points), as the lack of competitive action will be the end of the LIV guys. The new PGA tour calendar has given the PGA guys a much more competitive schedule as well, having the best players tee up against each other ca 20 times a year. A bit shit for the non-designated events if you want to be critical, but great for the tournaments with heightened attention. Don't think LIV will attract anyone not there (possible exception for Cam Young) of those on the way up or peak players, as the PGA has started to reward their own players even more than before.

There is no chance people want to see any of these lads ahead of Smith, DJ, Reed, Koepka in a pay per view.

I get that there are a lot of young ranked players who have not had LIV bucks thrown at them yet. That does not make them more popular.

I slightly misunderstood your post, I thought you meant quality of the players. Point still stands in my view... Who wants to see Reed and Koepka???? I'll give you Smith, and even if he's not particularly impressive now that everyone blasts it 330 yards, I'll give you DJ too. You'd take Reed and Koepka over Thomas and Homa? Guess we'll agree to disagree.

Ah - read back what we said man. You get 7 spots.

If you, me or anyone was going to do a best 10 man winner take all PPV event at least 3 would come from the LIV.

The mullett, DJ and Koepka get in no matter who else is there.

So let's go down a step = Morikawa or Reed for a PPV event? It might be worse for the Tour when you drill down.

The mullett, DJ and Koepka get in no matter who else is there. These are major champions. Alot of majors.

Not some fellas who show up at the Cadillac car park every week to get their rental.

I think if it was a straight forward as you say, they'd just startup 16 new franchises and start a new competition and persuade all the best players to join with money. I don't think it is that easy.

With the big clubs wanting to maximise their incomes and, presumably, having say over their own television rights, it’ll do the Premier League and UEFA no good whatsoever to allow City to ride roughshod over their FFP rules, as this will likely lead to the big clubs giving a collective fuck you to the authorities and going it alone.

They’d have to have some form of organisation to keep things orderly and so an “NFL” of European football might prove the likely outcome.

Most American sports are franchise driven, and I’ve thought for years that is how European football will go, it’s just who would be running it.

Where? The whole point of a sportswash is to create a bridges to opportunity. They don't want to re-create any of these leagues/sports, they want to own the crown jewels.

But your previous post was about nobody being arsed about domestic leagues. I don't understand what point you're making.

No, the point was overseas fans could care less about the PL. They have been indoctrinated into the teams there however - so the league itself has no value, only the top clubs do. Which is why a Super League ever came into discussion. Which is why the next step will be clubs owning their TV/streaming rights.

The point is whatever form that competition takes they will own the top echelon. By design.
