Russia v Ukraine

We could presumably lower unemployment by killing tens of thousands of people.

Could,  but that's not what's happened  Russia has a population of approximately 150 million.

Unemployment in Ukraine is 21%...plus approximately 6 million have left the country. Otherwise it'd be far higher.

Russia has an estimated 2.3 million unemployed. It has mobilized about a million people or more, put about a quarter of a million on disability and underground, plus people who moved or found employment in the expanded military industrial complex which probably pays well plus hundreds of thousands escaping last year's mobilization - so war is probably a contributing factor.

As far as I remember, it has an aging population and suffers from depopulation. There is a constant shortage of labour, skilled in particular, so high unemployment was not exactly a problem.

Wages are up 10 percent y/y when you factor in inflation.

You cannot compare it with Ukraine, because Russia is actively trying to destroy their economy, while Ukraine has so far been focused on Russia's military, with only sporadic attacks on civilian targets. Ukraine was exporting agricultural products, grain, sunflower seed oil etc, which has suffered from occupation, blockades and attacks on shipping terminals, and electricity, of which it now produces just about enough for their own needs, after Russia occupied the biggest nuclear power plant and destroyed a lot generation and transmission infrastructure. Plus all the industry that has been taken out due to frontline locations, like huge Mariupol steelworks etc.

Where have I said the Russian economy is doing better than the west?

It's a side question anyway.

Which is true. It is in a better state than plenty in the west.

They've got record low unemployment and a 20%  rise in wage inflation. All despite sanctions.

Obviously not across the board but their economy is defying expectations. Britain, France, Ukraine, Germany not looking so good.

For your own sanity, stick the spamming fuck on ignore. Even Poor Scouser Tommy eventually did this, although he has run multinational companies or something.

I've got absolutely no idea why anyone responds to this guy. He's unbelievably stupid.

As someone who ran a business in Russia for a decade, let me just say that every single statistic on jobs/economic indicators in the country is more or less completely made up.

I kid you not, the way the government determined how many employees I had working for me was for the bureau of statistics to call me every quarter and just ask me "how many people work in your factory?" I could have completely made up any number I wanted to (and sometimes they'd ask me if I didn't have a few more I could count). It was bizarre. Granted, we lived in a very poor part of Siberia, but I know for a fact that unemployment was at least 40%, at least treble what was reported in the official government numbers every year.

I don’t get what he’s trying to achieve. A bit like the political related threads. Says he believes and supports one thing and then seemingly promotes the other and batters the thing he supports.

I suppose it’s not too much different than the match threads to be fair though.

I hope this war is over soon either way. Mainly for the people of Ukraine whose lives have been thrown into disarray for nearly the past 2 years because of it

Ok mate, but the way I perceive the things you post are that you are pro Russia and anti Ukraine and the west.

You’re not posting positive outcome possibilities and outlining how this or that could lead to peace, but more criticising Ukraine and any actions of support for them, while promoting Russia’s stance and chances while not actually directly promoting it. Then if it’s pointed out that anyone infers your posts that way, you then contradict the messages a lot of the time with your own written message.

I personally find it confusing Nate. I’m not trying to have a dig at you either, so apologies if it feels that way. I like you - I think you’re a decent sort, I just struggle to comprehend where you’re coming from at times. And why.

I completely understand why some have joked that you might be a bot too, as with little understanding of how they are pulled together and deployed into action, I’d imagine joining online conversations with an outward persona that matches that of the audience, while indirectly dropping opposing messages into the conversation, en mass, would be how I imagine them to be set up.

OK mate no worries. I can assure you I'm not a bot, not really sure what one is tbh.

Their have been 3 major headlines on Ukraine these past couple of days, all pretty much backing up what I've been saying for the past 18 months.

As its the Ukraine thread I put up the headlines. Here they are again. Whether you agree with the general point they are making is up to you but its becoming increasingly obvious the narrative is changing around this war.

If there is a sure sign the sanctions are working, it's Gnasher repeatedly shitposting about it.

The Russian economy cannot compete with the combined economies of the EU and the US. Putin's only hope is to sever support for Ukraine, and sadly he's doing a good job. If the US and the EU won't continue to support Ukraine then it's goodnight Kiev. And probably goodnight Baltic States too.

We dont want silly context and details. This means nothing compared to a randomly selected twitter users opinion or journalists latest uninformed piece.

If you think Fred from Facebook has a better understanding of the geopolitical situation in Russia/Ukraine than some of the journalists I've posted above it sort of explains why you're constantly in the wrong.

One way to keep the economy rising is to have oligarchs falling. It happens.

A Russian lawmaker and ally of President Vladimir Putin was found dead under mysterious circumstances Wednesday after falling from the third floor of his home, Russian state media has reported.

Vladimir Egorov, 46, who was a member of Putin's ruling United Russia party, plunged 30 feet to his death at his home in the town of Tobolsk, located in the western Siberian region of Tyumen Oblast.

Which is EXACTLY why putting so much stock in journalists opinion etc is close to meaningless. Fast forward 3 months and the weathercocks will have something new to write about.

Most journalists are experts in absolutely fuck all. You can't bet everything on the flavour of the month. I mean that dope above can't make his mind up. It's fuck all to do with the penny dropping.

You sit there rubbing your hands together when you make 90% of your posts don't you?
